I was wondering how everyone got their names.
I got my name because when my Daddy got me I talked a LOT, and so Mommy thought it was appropriate to name me after the nymph Echo. She even posted the story on the links.

When I was new at home, I was an upset kitty with how that mean human disposed of me that I meowed all the time. One day mom just bent over and meowed back at me, and I stood up on my back legs, did a twistie q and meowed back. Then mom meowed and then I meowed and .... well you get it. By the end of that day of the meowing game, I was named Echo

Every morning I give Momma a twistie q and meow, and we play our meow games quite often

Contrary to what some might think I didn't get my name from that TV show called "Lost" and the character Mr. Eko.

When I first got to my forever home I was scared and hid under some furniture in the room we call the "kitten nursery". Mommy didn't want me to be alone so she slept on the floor and had an oscellating fan moving back and forth to keep her cool. In the middle of the dark I found the courage to come out and explore.

Really what I was doing was calling for my friends at the cat rescue so I was meowing and hoping they would answer. (My first day on my own was a little frightening.) When I got to the fan, though, my voice sounded different. So I sat there and meowed into it some more. Your voice really sounds funny when you meow into a fan!

Well, my meowing woke up mommy and when she saw what I was doing she realized I really liked the sound of my own voice. (I do.) She was also trying to figure out what to name me and was observing me to get a clue. When she told Daddy about me and the fan he said "You could call him Echo".

Of course! Echo! In Greek mythology Echo was a nymph who loved the sound of her voice! But since I'm a boy, they decided I needed to be called "Mister" so nobody would get confused and think I was a girl.

So there you have it. When I think of the alternatives Mr. Echo is a dandy name.

They could have called me Oscillating.....

I was adopted at the same time as my sister, Emmy, who for some reason our mommy was able to name very quickly. It took her a lot longer to name me. She finally settled on Echo, because she noticed that I used to do everything Emmy did when we were kittens (I have since grown out of that - thank you very much!) and she liked the alliteration.

Mommy also thought I was a girl. By the time she realized what that tuft of fur beneath my tail really was, she had gotten used to calling me Echo, so the name has stuck. I probably wouldn't be called Echo if she had realized I was a bouncing baby boy from the beginning.

(Male pride dictates that I tell you that, despite my feminine name and castrato's soprano voice, I am now a strapping 14 pounds and regularly win my daily wrestling competitions with Emmy.)

Those are such interesting stories. It's cool to hear that someone got their name from sort of the same thing I did.
