Got in a hike today. Have Tyson training for sledding/drafting. What fun! 11F out there and windy and snowing (it was quite dark and gray but I brightened up the pics so they were prettier) so I bundled up like the Michelin man, lol, but I got way too hot because I ended up running a lot.

Puppies wanna go walkies?

The noble sled Akita (he just has an 8 lb weight in his sled)

so cool

Bonnie's toes are froze!

Go puppies Go!
Ok, I had to run really fast trying to keep up with these nut jobs. But Tyson was good and took my Whoa command when I started falling too far behind.

Winter Wonderland

Pull Mighty AhKeeTah!
There wasn't enough weight in the sled so I put backwards tension on the line (ie. let him pull my arms out of their sockets) for most of the walk so he'd get a proper notion of keeping his line tight and working into the harness. He did well.

He is so very handsome. smile The snow is his element.

??

Bonnie

LOL

Here we go.....
About 1/3 of the walk is down hill, so Ty had enough momentum to pull me! It was SO fun! At one point we were at full gallop and came upon a tree across the road. Tyson did not take my Whoa command party so I had to bail out to save myself from certain death or dismemberment. But luckily the sled caught the tree and he hit the end of the line as I was calling Whoa, so he didn't get away with ignoring me. After that we continued on without incident and it was much fun and very fast. Is it wrong to ask for a whole team of dogs for Christmas? Well, I don't think that will happen but maybe if they are good Ty will get an Xback harness and Bon will get her bikejoring setup. I can just dream on for a proper dogsled. wink

Oh what fun it is to sing a sledding song tonight!

I laughed SO HARD and SO MANY TIMES reading that post that I not only woke everybody up, but I had to run off and pee before responding and there are tears streaming down my face.
WHOO.

You live in such a gorgeous area! I'm jealous of your snow. The pictures are so fun and I LOOOOVE Bonnie's ears! She's getting bigger too I noticed. I ordered my Ty an X-back harness with fleece lining to start training him for sledding too! We have to drive a little bit to find it though. It would be so awesome to have a team of Akitas and a real sled! I've seen some (sleds) online for pretty cheap...under $200 for the sled itself. I don't know what shipping would be, but I can imagine not cheap. How much does Tyson weigh?

Also, LOVE your little song at the end. Made my day cloud 9

LOL I love you! Glad it made you happy. wink
Have you seen this? It's your Akita sled team! http://www.akc.org/videos/breeds/akita.swf

I'm going to try and build a dogsled. Here's an article that gave me some ideas.

Also, I saw a video of a Sacco cart (like a wheelchair with four wheels for one or two dogs to pull) and that looks like tons of fun too!

My Ty is 85 lbs. I think I need a few more dogs. I've been fantasizing about a yard full of huskies. Seriously, it was that much fun! I really don't like winter all that much but having a fun winter activity could make the snow worthwhile. smile

Here's a little video from today, we all had fun playing in the snow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YGdJAw6S1M

Tyson did not do so great today with the sledding to be honest. He was really distracted and wanted to sniff, not run. He did much better last week, when we were on a trail with a clear destination. I guess he needs a lot more work, lol.

Anyway, the first bit is from my perspective, lol, we hit a fence, and also Alex had to run with him to get him going. Then the second bit is my friend in the sled, Tyson doesn't really know her and kept looking over his shoulder to see who the heck was back there! And then there is our failed attempt at sledding down the road. Ty was going too slow and wandered off course and I hit him (at low speed) and it spun the sled backwards and it was in general a mess. confused And then there are some cute Akita zoomies in the snow, and also Bonnie playing in the snow like a freak.

We'll keep working on it.... big grin

OOOOOOH my goodness, Bonnie bounding through the snow at the end was great! It would be cool to film her from ground level doing that in slow motion. I liked the perspective of Tyson pulling you, that looked so fun! He is such a handsome dog smile Ahh can I share that vid on my Facebook? I have a lot of dog friends who would love to see it too!

I was inspire to go up to the snow yesterday, but like a dork I completely forgot Ty's harness and lead line, so theres just some footage of him playing a little. Whenever I say "WHUT" in a big deep voice he barks at me (it's pretty much the ONLY time he ever barks), but of course he wouldn't do it for the camera, so please excuse me sounding like a crazy person!

And then there's my little Sassafras, who, quite unlike Bonnie, is not a fun snow-buddy counterpart to Tyson. She has head trauma and it's hard to get her to enjoy anything, but she responds well to high-pitched repetitive phrases, especially her name, so to get her pumped up bout being in the cold I have to look like kind of an idiot. But she did wag her tail!! So it was not in vain smile

I'm trying to rally the troops again today for more snow fun before we all have to be slaves to the work week, and I will remember Ty's harness and my gloves!

Of course you can share it, add me too if you want. wink

I'll try to get more video of Bonnie, she's such a kick. We have enough snow now that she has to bound and leap to get around in it. I also want to take Ty up on the trails again and see if he doesn't do better sledding there, and get some good video of that. But as I said, there's a lot of snow now. Might get my friend to take a snowmobile up there and pack some trails.

Your Ty is looking so grown up and manly! smile Can't wait to hear how you guys do with the sledding. big grin

More sledding. We built a make-shift sled and it works much better. So long as T actually feels like working...

Haha how cool! Oh that looks like so much fun and he looks so proud! My Tyson grew out of his harness party Need to order a new one... But having him drag the Christmas tree is just absolutely adorable. I love your pet movies smile
