Murphy, mama says that if you want to read some smart and funny books, you should give Terry Pratchett a try. He has written over 35 novels in his Discworld series and they are wonderful. If you are not familiar with his work, Mama suggests that you start with "The Wee Free Men". There are four books in this mini series. The next is "A Hat Full of Sky", then "Wintersmith", then "I Shall Wear Midnight". If you like them, there are a lot more where they came from! And of course, Mama also recommends the Chet and Bernie mysteries. So far she's only read the first one, but it was really funny. It's called "Dog On It"

Those sound good, Dillon, and we really enjoyed the "Finding Jack" book - what a wonderful relationship they had together. Set in Viet Nam Mom remembers that era well - and now the dogs are brought back to the US with less troubles. A friend of ours brought his dog and his commanding officer's dog home, until the man will be able to take him to his home.

Mom read, "Autism and Alleluias" by Kathleen Deyer Bolduc this morning and wow! What a wonderful book if you are curious or dealing with autism and Christian.

There are two dogs mentioned toward the end of the book but in no way is it really a dog book. confused

wave I just joined. Mom has a Kindle now, so she's CONSTANTLY reading!

The Hunger Games is mom's all time favorite series ever!

Also, mom got After the Leaves Fall as a free book on her Kindle and even though it's sad it's a great small series. It's a Christian book, but it's not shoving Christianity down your throat. It allows the protagonist to make mistakes and turn away from religion and learn and grow. It's very, very good.

I LOVED the Hunger Games too, Layce. I am finishing another great book right now. It is good in that same mind bending way.

Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card

And Mom listened to another short, 1 CD, one that was so funny she was laughing aloud as she mowed the grass.

Live for your listening pleasure by David Sedaris.

Personally, I was a bit worried about her sanity. shock

I will check out the one you mentioned. I am ok with Christian books as long as they aren't shoving it down your throat.

Maybe Christian based, but not really - the Yada group of books - there is a group of women and their families, start at the beginning of the series, how they all got together - what all they go through, I think 7 books in all - I love them! way to goblue dog snoopy

waveHey everyone!
Wow haven't posted here in forever! Missed this group, it is one of our all time favorites.cloud 9

Mom adores the Hunger Games! Can't wait for the movie, even though they just started filiming like earlier this week laugh out loud.

So mom never finnished Winter's Bone, it was a really good book but had a little bit of a hard time getting into it because it was so sad & she saw the movie a little bit after starting. Amazing movie (followed the book well) but she kind of gave up on the book!red face

Mom did read:
The Help-This book was simply amazing. It is on the top of mom's all time favorite books list along with Water for Elephants & The Hunger Games. It is a little long but it was beautifully written & hard to put down!

The Glass Castle- A teacher of mom's who has very similar taste in books suggested this for her & it was a wonderful read. She wasn't sure about it at first b/c she hasn't read much non-fiction recently (she used to all the time) but it sure is a find! Really paints vivid images & is easy to get into. You guys should most def check it out!way to go

The Lovely Bones- Saw the movie about a week before reading this & mom wasn't really planning on reading but she got it free & had heard good things. The movie didn't really follow the book very well & the book is much better. Not one of her favorites but it was really different & a nice change. Sad though!

Mom is really hoping to get some nice summer reading done though now that school is out!snoopy She is currently reading The Daily Coyote & No Regrets (Apolo Ohno's biography)is next. Then onto Girl With The Dragon Tatoo!

And Zak "Autism and Alleluias" sounds really interesting. Will have to look that one up.

Oh & mom saw the Water For Elephants the movie & really enjoyed it. The movie followed the book very well & the acting was nice too.

Sorry for the long postred face Mom tends to ramble when it comes to books!
