 | | | | Our post if from all three of us who are living with FeLV. I'm Bo, and I'm the oldest, so I'm writing but I'll tell you all about my sisters Seven and Darcy.
Meowmy and PurrDaddy got me from Meowmy's cousin. My kitty-mommy showed up on her porch, pregnant with what turned out to be five kittens. Meowmy took two - my and my brofur Cider. Shortly after we came to our furever home, Meowmy took us to the vet and got the news that we were FeLV positive. (I still doesn't know what that means, but Meowmy sez I'm fine!). My brofur Cider only lived about a year before cancer struck him - fast and furious. They let him go to the Bridge after taking him to vets and the state vet school in Athens, GA. Meowmy still gets so upset about Cider that she's been unable to make a Catster page for him. We love him still!
I'm almost four now and healthy as a horse! Meowmy feeds me high protein foods and gives me interferon and L-lysine to boost my immune system. (My sisfurs get these, too.) She tries to keep our lives as stress free as she can.
Seven joined our family next. One night, PurrDaddy went to the grocery store. He was in the dairy section, next to an emergency exit fire door, when he was sure he heard the crying of a kitten. Being the soft-hearted man he is, he asked the check-out crew if they knew of any cats around. Teenagers being teenagers, they weren't very interested, but shortly afterward, he saw two boys headed to the rear delivery docks, one carrying a broom. My PurrDaddy drove around back, not wanting to leave a defenseless cat or kitten to face the broom-armed boys alone. Beneath a pallet, they found a small kitten, no more than 4-5 weeks old. Naturally, the kitty came to a forever home with us! She was diagnosed as FeLV+ on her first vet trip. Her meow is just a chirp. We think she used up her voice crying for help! She's a wonderful sisfur!
Darcy is our newest FeLV+ sisfur. Darcy was found at Meowmy's workplace. After checking the neighborhood, it became apparent she'd been abandoned. Just a tiny kitten, she couldn't have been over six weeks old. As the designated cat-rescue-person at work, Meowmy naturally took her home! I love Darcy! She's a cute kitten and a terrific sisfur!!
In addition to us and Catfish and Sheba, who are 'normal', we have Shamrock, a deaf Angora, and our newest family member, Scarlett, who is blind and partially deaf. Meowmy and PurrDaddy have no human kids, so they've taken it as their life's misison to care for the kitties lots of other folks wouldn't want. We get lots and lots of love!
With me, Meowmy tried to separate me from the healthy cats at first, but it just seemed so mean! I wanted to meet them and play! So now we all live together. We get along well and never fight - well, play fighting does go on, but nobody gets scratched. So far, it's worked fine. Of course, the 'well' cats all stay current on their shots. Seven, Darcy, and I get well-cat checks at least three times a year to catch any problems early on. I've had a couple of mouth ulcers but that's all.
Aren't we lucky kitties?
So glad this group is here! Nice to meet you all! Please go visit our pages and sign our guestbooks. We'd all love to be furriends!
Love,
Bo, Seven, and Darcy | | | | |
