Hi, My name is Lewis and I turn 4 this week. I was diagnosed with severe HCM when I was 2 years old in July 2008. I was only given a year or two to live at the time, but I am doing AMAZING and now my cardiologist says I am not going anywhere anytime soon smile I see her regularly and am so thankful we found her. I hope everyone else is doing well and would love to hear how everyone is doing. Not that we are experts, but let me know if anyone has any questions as we have done A LOT of research on feline HCM! xo, Lewis

Hello all, my name is Blade, I'm 9 years old and from Nottingham, England. I started having this occasional cough towards the end of last year and my human's thought it was something to do with hairballs as I'd go two weeks without coughing at all and it would seem to coincide with me barfing up hairballs. Anyway, the cough got more frequent, although I only ever cough if I'm lying down or just woke up from being asleep.
To cut a long story short, after investigations culminating in chest x-ray and ultrasound scan, they found I have HCM and some fluid in my lungs. It's all been a terrible shock and my humans are just getting to grips with my medication, Frusemide and Fortekor (benazepril) as I am the worlds worst cat to have to medicatedancing
My favourite things are prawns and finding secret places to have naps where no one can find me.

My name is Graffiti and I reside in Ontario Canada. I am Canadian, eh? hehe

I am actually a rescue cat. I was born to a ferrel mother who was rescued shortly after giving birth to me and the rest of my litter mates. They actually didn't even know we were there until they had noticed my mom lactating and new right away there was a liter of kittens out side somewhere. The human rescuerers had come back for us and found us huttled in the corner of a dumped old couch, very cold and scared we were. Anyways, we were re joined with my mom and enjoyed a happy warm and cozy big cage to ourselves. Once we got old enough to be adopted out to human parents we were scattered around to different pet stores and places in our own cage sometimes sharing it with another kitty. My human mom says she fell in love with me as soon as she layed eyes on me. She didn't care I had CH and walked funny, she said it added to my character as a cat and made me even more lovable, which I think is true, everyone that seems to meet me wants to steal me away from my human mom and dad because they seem to fall in love with me too, well what can I say??
Anyways, over the past year I was doing this cough thing, first Mom and Dad thought I was just trying to get up a hair ball, but nothing every came of it. The cough got worse and more fequent so they took me into the vet expecting to hear I had asthma, but my vet told Mom and Dad that I had more then just asthma, a 3rd of 4th stage heart murmur and possible heart disease as well. Since I am a kitty I have no idea really what this meant, but it couldn't be good by how Mom and Dad had reacted. So we going for tests now to see what medications I need to take and I am not looking forward that.

I love everything, there isn't much I don't love, well you have to get me in a REALLY good mood to be able to rub my tummy a little bit, I don't really like it. I love playing fetch with my springs and a string, I will bring it back to you 90% of the time and sometimes play tug of war with you if you try to get the string back. hehe I love going out on the balcony and sun tanning in the sun spots. Even though I can't jump onto window sills because of the CH, Mom and Dad lift me up to look out the window sometimes, but there really isn't much to see when you are looking out from the 6th floor of an apartment building. :p

My name is Miss Mittens, I'm 14 years old and live in New Jersey with my mommy, grandma and sister Kaci Sunshine.

I don't have a diagnosis yet. When I went for my 6 month wellness exam in May, my vet heard a heart murmur. She said it was close to a grade 3 murmur. Next I saw my internal medicine specialist and while I was there, he took xrays of my heart and said my heart is mildly enlarged with enlarged pulmonary vessels. I'm scheduled to see a cardiologoist and have an echocardiogram on June 15.

Like Sally Maria, I have other health issues which complicates matters. First, I have cancer -- small cell intestinal lymphoma -- and have been on chemo for 1-1/2 years. I take prednisone every day and a chemo drug twice a week. When I saw my internal medicine specialist in May, they did an abdominal ultrasound and my cancer is stable (i.e. in remission). That's very good news!

I've also just been diagnosed with kidney insufficiency (early stage kidney disease). We're trying a prescription diet and hoping that will help. Subq fluids may or may not be in my future! cry cry

I also have low thyroid function, which is uncommon in kitties. After surgery last October to remove a tumor on my thyroid gland (thankfully benign!), my thyroid function dropped to way below normal. My vets didn't want to treat it at first because of my cancer and I started going downhill. However, because of my newly diagnosed kidney disease, my IM decided it should be treated. I've been taking Levothyroxine for about 3 weeks now and mommy can see a BIG improvement now that I'm taking that medication.

My favorite things are food (eating), napping in sunbeams, lying on my boogie mat with my head on my catnip apple, sitting on the chair next to mommy when she's on the computer and getting lots and lots of petting sessions!
