cheer Yay! I got the staples out of my leg today, so that's the good news. The bad news is: I can't be free yet.frown The surgeon doesn't want me running around & jumping. The good news is: Mom has me in the house!! She's gonna have to sell her house & move,so she thought this was a good time to introduce me to indoor living. She's not sure what to do about Smokey, though; he'll never be a good housecat, and he hides from anyone except Mom; he's used to l iving in the barn. Does anycat know someone in our general area who'd like a barn cat? He looks a lot like me (without the extra toes, of course!
laugh out loud )

I have to go back & let the surgeon look at my leg on the 15th; maybe after that, I'll be a free man.eek

That is awesome news Shadow. Great to hear that you have the stitches out and will soon be a full-time housecat.
We bet that Smokey would adjust to indoor living too if he gets a taste of "the good life."
It might take awhile but if introduced slowly, he would probably adjust very well. He might hide for a few days before he would feel comfortable. Maybe he could be kept in a bathroom or a room of his own for awhile until he adjusts.
We are not in your area; so couldn't give any suggestions on anyone wanting a barn cat. We are feeding a stray kitty right now too. We are not positive if it is the same one that we see in the fields around our house during the day or not, but if so, he looks a lot like you and Smokey, (and my angel brofurr, Smokey).
Meowmy puts out food every night and each morning the dish is empty. We know that it is a kitty that is eating it because we've seen the footprints in the snow. Meowmy hopes that she gets to see the kitty up close some day but he is very, very scary right now.

Shadow, That is great news on two counts...the staples are out and you moving indoors! Your Mom 'talked' to my Meowmy about Smokey, so you already know what was said.
Purrs to you and your Mom.

Shadow, I know how good that must feel to have the staples out! I had a pin in my hip for almost two months when I broke my leg in two places last year, and it was so much more comfurtable after I had it taken out!
My brofur Curly can't post in this group because he's not a poly, but he told me to tell you that it is the pawsomest thing in the world to become an indoor kitty after having to stay outside. It's been almost a year since our daddy gave in to Mommy and said she could keep Curly indoors, and he adjusted very quickly, even though he had been an outside kitty all his life up to that time. I think Tuffy's advice is good; It would take a period of adjustment, but Smokey would probably love being indoors once he got used to "the good life"!

Thanks so much, Tuffy, Sherlock, and Lalo for your good wishes. I wasn't all that happy about being in the house yesterday afternoon, and the two guys who live there (Mordred and Blue) seemed afraid of me, although I never moved out of the bay window. Little Althea did come up to say hello, though. So, at dusk, I went to the door and went out when Mom went to the barn. I ate in there, and then jumped up into my crate, where I spent the night. Brrr. . .it got cold last night, too - down to 16. My water froze, but I was pretty cozy in my deep cuddler bed with the heating pad. Mom still felt bad, though. Anyway, she said something this morning about bringing me into the house this afternoon - let the guys and me get used to things gradually.

Sherlock, yes, Mom is so pleased to "meet" your mom and have her help solve the problem. With me in the house (which is small and maybe the new place will be smaller), 4 cats is already stretching the limits. As Althea's doctor pointed out: too many of us in a small space causes problems. And Smokey would be paranoid cooped up, I think.

Thank you all for your good wishes! MIDE people really *are* the best!! hug

kitty when we lived in houston, we had a two bedroom apartment with 4 people and 4 kitties.the master bedroom was big but the other room was big enough for a queen size bed and not much more. we all got along well. it was not big but it worked out. now we have a 4 bedroom and all of us, that are indoors, get along just fine. every once in a while the grouchy brother has a fit but it passes. kitty we also have the big two car garage we hang out in. each kitty picks his own spot. the 4 kittens stay close to each other. they leave the older ones alone. they also know who to play with and who not to bother, mainly me. the kittens keep the older ones young. sometimes the older ones play like kittens. it is good exercise for the older ones. wink just thought you would like to know. kitty

Oh, thanks, Erni, for the encouragement! Mom needs that. Little Althea seems kinda friendly; at least she doesn't run off like the guys do! frown And when Lady first came here, they had to get used to her, too; I'm not the least bit nasty: I don't hiss or growl or tell anyone to stay away. I just wanna be friends, but they're so stand-offish! I guess things will work out eventually; after all, this is new territory for all of us. But we really, really appreciate your encouragement! Thanks so much! way to go

Shadow,
Tell your Mommy that it will just take time. I have been living in the same house with Pickles for a year now and we still have our little spit and hiss fits. At least we tolerate each other pretty well most of the time now. (As long as she doesn't take my bed and lets me eat first) MOL!

Thanks so much, Tuffy. smile Things are slowly getting better; I hardly ever go out of the living room 'cause I just love sleeping on the sofa or in the bay window. The boys have at least started coming into the room when I'm there, so Mom considers that progress. Honest, all I want is to be friends!cry I hope they'll soon see that I'm not at all a fighter; I'm really very laid back - so much so that Mom's starting to wonder if I'm sick, but it's just that I'm so enjoying having a warm, dry place to sleep. Thanks for the encouragement, Tuffy; all the MIDE kiddens are such good friends!

Shadow, my brofur Curly says to tell you that the day after tomorrow will be the one-year annifursary of the day when Mommy brought him inside the house to stay. He is so loving it! And the rest of the kitties have all accepted him. We are sure Mordred and Blue will eventually learn to at least tolerate you even if you don't become close furiends. We are glad you are doing so well and staying in out of the cold!
