Mama Has Long School
=====================

. . .and a little child shall lead you.

Children can teach us a lot.

My son taught me another lesson.

He goes to school at 8:30 each morning.

He is typical of virtually all children and prefers to stay at
home. He has his usual whining about school each morning.
My wife will either pick him up at 1pm or 3pm depending on her
schedule.

She started taking classes twice each week to get her real
estate brokers license. Her class is from 9 to 5 each day.
It is a 1 hour drive in the rush hour traffic to get to the
class. That means she is out of the house by 8am twice each
week and doesn't get home until after 6.

On those days, I take my son to school.

This was one of those days.

He was unusually quiet and cooperative.
As we pulled into the school parking lot he said,

"You know daddy, mama has to go to school a lot longer than I
do."

I hadn't thought of it in those terms.
Neither had he until this morning.

He learned the important lesson of relativity.

All things in the material world are relative.

His school didn't seem so bad now.
Mama was gone from early until late.
He was only at school until early afternoon.
Suddenly things weren't so bad.

Life is relative.

Complaining about the job that you have to go to early each day?
Think about the over 500,000 workers who filed for unemployment
last month.

Complaining about the husband who won't help wash the dishes
or the wife who uses paper plates instead of washing dishes?
Think about the ones who took off and never came home for
dinner.

Complaining about the extra bit of fat around your stomach?
Think about all those whose ribs show from lack of food.

"You know daddy, mama has to go to school a lot longer than I
do."

Mama, exhausted from class all day, housework,
childcare and driving, looks at her son and says,
"boy, he sure has it easy."

Others look at mama and say, "boy, she sure has it easy,
with a few kids and a good husband."

Life is relative. Learn to see your blessings.

Though you, like my son, carry a heavy load based on your
perception,

Boy, you sure have it easy.

The Script Writer
==================

Feeling a bit wobbly with the chaos in the world today? Time
to check what you are standing on. A guest speaker at my
church on Sunday gave a great illustration of this fact.

When he was a boy, the speaker said he often watched the old
Batman television series. In every episode, Batman's enemies
like the Joker and Catwoman always seemed to trap him by the
end of it - like over a shark tank or buried alive
underground. The announcer would say to tune in tomorrow at
the same "Bat-time" and same "Bat-Channel" to see how it was
going to turn out.

Somehow Batman always managed to get to his utility belt which
would contain shark-repellent or a collapsible shovel that
would be just the right tool to get him out of his situation.

The speaker said that while he was worried about how the story
was going to turn out, one person was not worried.

The script writer.

See, the script writer already knew exactly what trouble
Batman was going to face. Not only that, but the script writer
knew exactly what was going to get Batman out of it - after
all, he had already written victory into the story.

If you are worried about the troubles facing you with your
health, your finances, or your relationships, then know that
God has already provided the answers for you just as surely as
the Batman script writer did for his creation.

For example, in terms of my health I stand on this promise:

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in
health, just as your soul prospers.

So whenever I feel sick, I pray as if I am already reading the
end of the story in which I am in health and prospering. After
all, that's what the script says is going to happen!

Do you need to lay hold of God's promises concerning health or
any other challenges that can hinder you from reaching your goals?

Think today about whether you are standing on your
circumstances, which change constantly or God's word, which
never changes. When you move to stand on God's word, you too
will have amazing faith that will help you stand strong during
challenging times.

Be blessed in health, wealth, and wisdom,

Today's Power Thought:
Develop the Happiness Habit.

The happiness habit is developed by simply practicing happy thinking. Make a mental list of happy thoughts and pass them through your mind several times every day. Proverbs 15:15 states: "...he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast." Let a series of pictures pass across your mind of pleasant experiences you expect for the day. Such thoughts will help cause events to turn out that way.

Today's Power Thought:
Practice Love and Good Will.

It is amazing what happiness a sincere expression of compassion and tenderness will induce. Dr. Samuel Shoemaker once told of a baggage handler in Grand Central Station, named Ralston Young. He carried bags for a living, but his real job was to share a little Christian fellowship with those he met. He carefully watched customers to see if there was a way he could give them more courage and hope. He shared a little love with everyone he met. In the words of Tolstoy, "Where love is, God is." So, practice sharing happiness with others and you will find it for yourself.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
Ephesians 3:20

Today, remind yourself that nothing is too good to be true. Your great hopes can be realized. Your most wonderful dreams can come true. All that you really need, you can have. An incredible goodness is operating in your behalf. If you are living a paltry life, resolve to stop it today. Expect great things to happen. Confidently receive God's abundant blessings. Do not think lack. Instead think prosperity, abundance, the best of everything. God wants to give to you, His child, every good thing. Don’t hinder His generosity.

Today's Power Thought:
Practice Right Thinking.

When the 23rd Psalm says, "He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness," it not only means the paths of goodness, but the paths of right-mindedness as well. The great secret of successful living is to reduce the amount of error in oneself and increase the amount of truth. Truth always produces right results.

Dirt
=====

The boss ordered one of his men to dig a hole eight feet deep.

After the job was completed the boss returned and explained
an error had been made and the hole wouldn't be needed.

"Fill the hole back up," he ordered.

The worker did as he'd been told. But he ran into a problem.

He couldn't get all the dirt packed back into the hole
without leaving a mound on top.

He went to the office and explained his problem.

The boss snorted, "Honestly! The kind of help you get these days!

There's obviously only one thing to do.

You'll have to dig that hole deeper!"

Have you ever tried to un-ring a bell?

Once rung, it's rung. You can't call the sound back into the
bell.

That is true with a bell.

That is true with words.

Once rung or said, it can be un-rung or un-said.

There are many things in life that once it's done,
it just can't be put back exactly like it was.

When we dig up and spread dirt, we can't just put the dirt back
in and make everything like it was before.

Even when we try to repair the damage, we leave marks.

Before we say an unkind word, humiliate someone, or spread
gossip, remember, it's like the boss that tried to fill in the
hole and make it like it was.

You can't just dig it deeper.

There is a sign that you will often see on property where
underground power, water or gas lines run.

It says, "Call this number before digging".

Maybe we should always check with the main office before
digging.

You can never get dirt put back in place quite right once it's
been let loose.
