You know I have always wanted to know why the Republicans use the elephant! I do, however know where the donkey came from. When he was running for president one of Andrew Jackson's rivals called him a jack ass, so instead of being insulted he decided to take pride. After all the everyday people whom Jackson represented depended on the donkey for their livelihood whether it was to pull their vehicles or plow their fields. Therefore, the donkey came to be the representative of the Democratic party.way to go
