How Much of God Do You See?

Today´s Scripture:
"Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart…" (Psalm 24:3-4, NKJV).

Today´s Word:
Do you want to see more of God in your life? As believers in Jesus, the Bible says that He makes His home in us, but we have to do our part to develop our relationship with Him. We have to choose to submit our hearts to Him and allow Him to purify us on the inside. We have to constantly guard ourselves and not allow things to come in and contaminate us.

How do you guard your heart? By being selective about what you see and watch on TV. If you don't want to become like some of the people you see on TV, don't watch them - your mind picks up more than you think it does! If you don't want to end up like the people singing those songs on the radio, you shouldn't listen to them and carry their tunes in your head all day. If you don't want to end up like many of the people in the magazines, you shouldn't read them.

It's a fact -- what you give your attention to will shape your heart and character. Give your attention to the Word of God (when was the last time you opened your Bible?). Give your attention to worship (when was the last time you raised your hands in praise as tears ran down your cheeks?). Open your heart to the Father and ask Him to purify you by His Holy Spirit (when was the last time you pleaded for Him to change anything that He sees needs changing?).

As you do these things, you cannot help but rise higher and higher into the abundant life He has specifically planned for you!

Prayer for Today:
"Heavenly Father, I want to see more of You. Open the eyes of my heart. Purify me and cleanse my heart. Help me make the right choices so that I can honor You today and always. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You all day long. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

The Boy and The Tree
=====================

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy
loved to come and play around it everyday. He climbed to the
tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow...

He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.

Time went by...
The little boy grew up, and he no longer played around the tree
everyday. One day, the boy came back to the tree with a sad
look on his face. "Come and play with me," the tree asked the
boy. "I am no longer a kid, I don't play around trees anymore."
The boy replied, "I want toys. I need money to buy them."
"Sorry, I don't have money...but you can pick all my apples and
sell them so you will have money."

The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree
and left happily. The boy didn't come back after he picked the
apples. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited.
"Come and play with me," the tree said.
"I don't have time to play. I have to work for my family.
We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?"
"Sorry, I don't have a house, but you can chop off my branches
to build your house."

So the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left happily.
The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn't come back
afterward. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted.
"Come and play with me!" the tree said.

"I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax
myself. Can you give me a boat?" "Use my trunk to build your
boat. You can sail far away and be happy." So the boy cut the
tree truck to make a boat. He went sailing and didn't come
back for a long time.

Finally, the boy returned after he had been gone for so many
years. "Sorry, my boy. But I don't have anything for you
anymore. No more apples for you..." the tree said.

"I don't have teeth to bite," the boy replied.

"No more trunk for you to climb on."

"I am too old for that now" the boy said. "I really can't give
you anything... the only thing left is my dying roots," the
tree said with sadness.

"I don't need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after
all these years," the boy replied.

"Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest.
Come sit down with me and rest." The boy sat down and the tree
was glad and smiled with tears.

******************

This is the story of everyone.

The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play
with Mom and Dad... When we grew up, we left them...
We only came to them when we needed something or when we were in
trouble.

No matter what, parents will always be there and give you
everything they can to make you happy.

It may seem as if the way the boy treats the "tree" in the story
is cruel, but many of us take our parents for granted in the
same way.

Never forget how important your parents are and try not to take
them for granted... they may not be around forever.

“I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden wealth of secret places. . . .”
Isaiah 45:3 (NAS)

The people of Plum Coulee, Manitoba, dream big—so big they could foresee a future for the tall grain elevator that towered over their little village. For decades the elevator had been a central collection point for local farmers, who each autumn hauled their truckloads of grain into its holding bins, awaiting shipment by rail to distant points. But now, like many “prairie sentinels” of its kind, the elevator was facing demolition.

The local heritage committee wanted to turn the elevator into a tourist attraction. There was just one problem: money.

The company that owned the elevator was cooperative, agreeing to sell the building for the token sum of one dollar. When the massive job of cleaning began, however, community volunteers discovered that the company had inadvertently missed two large bins of grain stored away in the dark recesses of the elevator. Notified of the oversight, the company laid no claim to the grain since the building had been sold “as is.” What was a minimal loss to a large elevator company thus became a muchneeded gain for the heritage project.

I sometimes think God delights in letting us discover “the hidden wealth of secret places.” Yesterday it was a pair of sandals I found in a sale bin, the only pair my size, reduced to one-quarter the original price. A few months ago it was a stash of quilt patches unearthed in a recycling store in just the colors I needed. Several years ago it was discovering the joy of lilies, “treasures of darkness” bursting forth from bulbs buried in the rich black earth. And years before that, it was discovering “the secret wealth” (and health) of baking our own bread, the yeast hidden in the warm, fragrant dough.

Lord, thank You for granting me life “as is,” and the unexpected treasures You allow me to discover and enjoy.

I just pop by wif one of my books...Conflict and Courage.

*Dayzee helps Suzy get her book out of her embroidered pink bag* I does loves the pink...*Suzy carefully turns to her bookmark*

I does loves Bible stories, I likes Queen Esther the best, her beautiful, strong an' brave like us girls...But here what my book sayed about Bible stories.

For all those words which were written long ago are meant to teach us today; that when we read in the scriptures of the endurance of men and of all the help that God gave them in those days, we may be encouraged to go on hoping in our own time. Rom. 15: 4, Phillips.

The lives recorded in the Bible are authentic histories of actual individuals. From Adam down through successive generations to the times of the apostles we have a plain, unvarnished account of what actually occurred and the genuine experience of real characters. It is a subject of wonder to many that inspired history should narrate in the lives of good men facts that tarnish their moral characters. . . . The inspired writers did not testify to falsehoods to prevent the pages of sacred history being clouded by the record of human frailties and faults. . . .

It is one of the best evidences of the authenticity of the Scriptures that the truth is not glossed over nor the sins of its chief characters suppressed. . . . How many biographies have been written of faultless Christians, who, in their ordinary home life and church relations, shone as examples of immaculate piety. . . . Yet had the pen of inspiration written their histories, how different would they have appeared. There would have been revealed human weaknesses, struggles with selfishness, bigotry, and pride, hidden sins, perhaps, and the continual warfare between the spirit and the flesh. . . .

Had our good Bible been written by uninspired persons, it would have presented quite a different appearance and would have been a discouraging study to erring mortals, who are contending with natural frailties and the temptations of a wily foe. But as it is, we have a correct record of the religious experience of marked characters in Bible history. Men whom God favored, and to whom He entrusted great responsibilities, were sometimes overcome by temptation and committed sins, even as we of the present day strive, waver, and frequently fall into error. But it is encouraging to desponding hearts to know that through God's grace they could gain fresh vigor to again rise above their evil natures; and, remembering this, we are ready to renew the conflict ourselves.

Harvest season also means tornado season where I live. And the wind was picking up.
By Edwin Lytle, Gadsden, Alabama

It was a beautiful fall day in McLean County in western Kentucky. I had stayed home from high school to help my uncle Gene with the harvest. We started piling the wilted tobacco sticks to cure in the barn. Uncle Gene stayed in the wagon and I stood in the upper tiers of the barn while he passed the sticks to me.

About a third of the load was housed when Uncle Gene said, “Teddy, the wind is blowin’ a lot of dust up. You stay put while I go outside and close the doors.”

Usually I did just what Uncle Gene said. This time I did exactly the opposite—reacting instantly! I didn’t climb down the usual way. I simply let loose from the rafters and dropped to the wagon bed, then rolled over the tailgate onto the dirt floor.

There was a whoosh, then a great noise. I opened my eyes. I felt drops of rain and saw only sky above. Uncle Gene came running toward me, looking frightened.

The sides of the barn were gone. I could see all the way across the cornfields. About two hundred yards away lay what was left of the barn. The tier where I had stood was on the bottom of the pile. Later, when we cleaned up, I found my hat underneath the rubble. At the same second I had jumped, a tornado had spun out of the sky, sucked up the barn and smashed it into the field.

Sometimes God works in ways that are slow and steady. But at other times he reacts with split-second timing. I’m living proof of it.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me. . . .
Philippians 3:14 (NIV)

For years I was in awe of the “hard” Bible study at my church. They met for an hour longer than my class next door, and when I’d peek in as I walked by, they’d be poring over the Bible with highlighters and marking pens. I’d heard they even had hours of homework each week! They seemed to know so much about the Bible. I could never be like that, I thought. Where would I start?

Then our son Ross, learning about the world’s religions in a history class, came home with some questions I couldn’t answer: Were the Gospels close to eyewitness accounts or written many years later? Did Jesus ever really say He was God? I knew I had to dig deeper into God’s Word and find the answers to help Ross strengthen his faith. So I signed up for the hard Bible study, promising myself that I’d attend the first day and see if I could handle it.

That was four years ago. Since then I’ve come to know God much better. But I’ve also learned a simple plan for facing intimidating situations, one that’s worked for me whether it’s taking a hard class, sticking to an exercise regimen or giving up a bad habit:

Go. Make an effort to get started, even if it’s only a baby step.

Stay. Don’t quit that first day; stick with it, even if you can’t keep up.

Return. Keep going back and making one more try. Soon all those “just one more day” attempts pile up, and you’ve made a lot of progress.

Stay close by me, Lord, so that when I feel weak or my will begins to fail, Your gentle nudging helps me press on.

The Rose
=========

James was a highly respected officer in the army. In his spare
time, he liked to surf the net and talk to new people online.

He had been talking to a woman for some time now and had a sort
of internet relationship with her. He had actually fallen in
love with her. The only problem was that any time he asked her
about sending a picture her response was "if you love me this
much then what I look like doesn't matter."

So he agreed and let it go.

Later, even without seeing her but only knowing her personality
and how loving and caring she was, he asked her to marry him, to
which she answered yes. They decided to meet at a train station
for the first time and she told him that she would be wearing a
red rose so that he would know who she was.

Well the time came and James stood there in his full officers
uniform waiting ever so anxiously for her to come off of the
train.

Then he looked over to see a tall blonde with a short cut dress,
nice legs, long hair waving back and forth in the wind and the
most beautiful eyes he had ever seen. He couldn't believe his
eyes. . .

. . .then from behind her appeared an older heavyset woman
wearing a red rose.

As the beautiful woman walked by she asked, "Goin my way
soldier?" but James, as if he didn't even hear her, just turned
around standing at attention with tears of joy in his eyes and
looking at the older woman and said,

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you," to which the older lady
said, "I don't know why but that lady that just walked by told me
to wear this and if you came to me to tell you to meet her in
the restaurant across the street."

That is the way most of our lives are. The decisions we make
can change our lives. If you make the wrong choice you could
end up empty-handed but choosing the right way, even though it
may be the harder way, will work out always in the end.

We all have at least two choices to make,
the right one and the wrong one.

Which one will you make?

Ten Seconds
===========

You are right; it is the little things.

I was getting a special x-ray last week and the clerk put on my
ID bracelet. She must have noticed I was nervous. Because as
she put on my bracelet, she touched me with both hands...and
rubbed my arm.

She said something. But, I don't remember what she said!
I do remember, the touch............it has stayed with me for
weeks now.

The above was a response to the issue, Itty-Bitty Things,
http://www.mountainwings.com/past/1148.htm

It is amazing how such a simple thing can be remembered for so
long. Think back on an act of kindness that you remember from
long ago.

It was a dark morning in downtown Atlanta.

My father was a businessman, he had a store downtown, a wig and
cosmetics store. He would take his sons downtown before school
around 5:30 am and we would pass out flyers to women hurrying to
work.

I stood on a particular corner. I learned a lot about crowd
psychology from those early cold downtown mornings. If there
was a crowd of people coming across the crosswalk as the light
changed, it was vital that you got the first person in the crowd
to take one of your flyers.

If the first person took one, the rest would likely take one.
If the first person refused, the rest would likely refuse.

One morning a particularly rude lady brushed me aside with a
rather mean look. That wasn't unusual and it is not her that I
remember. The rest of the crowd following her across the street
also refused my proffered circulars.

It was just a circular, and you get used to rejection when
passing out circulars in the pre-dawn hours of a major city.

I don't remember the rude lady in front of the crowd.

I remember the last lady.

She was an older lady, perhaps mid-sixties to early seventies.
Her race was different from mine.
Her hair was white with age and her frame frail from the years.
She wore a black dress.

Did those things matter?

No, I just remember them.

She didn't need a wig and looked as if she never had or would
wear one. That I could plainly see.

Knowing the demeanor of the rest of the crowd, I made no real
attempt to give her a circular, after all, she was the one
person in the crowd that couldn't use what I was selling.

She stopped and extended her aged hand for one of my circulars.

I gladly gave her one and with that transfer, it lifted the
rejection of countless others before her.

She spoke three words . . .

"Jesus loves you"

and walked away.

That was 30 years ago.

It was an Itty-Bitty Thing that made a big difference.

Think on this:
What Itty-Bitty Thing made a big difference in your life?

Think also on this:
What Itty-Bitty Thing can you do to make a big difference in
someone else's life?

Neither of the two examples above cost anything or took more
than ten seconds.

Got ten seconds?
