|One of our favorite short stories of all time is Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville. It can be interpreted on many different levels, but we usually find it funny. We often find things funny. Anyway, it's about a guy who starts off being just a fairly normal guy. Eventually to every request or responsibility that comes his way, he says, "I would prefer not to," until at the end they cart him off to wherever. We have lots of days at work where we'd love to say, "I'd prefer not to."
I'm still going to look for the Benet story I mentioned! It's too good to miss!
