I know this is kind of late for a post on this topic but here goes... I have tried EVERYTHING with the boys and old Maggie. I don't like clumping because it is way to dusty and gets tracked everywhere. I would be extra concerned about a covered box because then the cats are breathing it all in while going potty. I have used good old fashioned litter, and am okay with it. I have used a feline pine type product bought at Tractor Supply for about 1/3 the cost anywhere else. It can also be found at feed stores- it is used in horse stalls. It is my favorite except for the sawdust. I'm going back to good ole Tidy Cat that you just pour and dump. My goal is to teach them to use the toilet, but that has disaster written all over it!

i think more cats would find homes if a perfect litter could be found!! we liked the tidy cat crystals but it was super pricey and didn't last as long as they claimed. the clumping has always tracked tons...we never knew about the air quality thing...both of those mom figures can't be that great for the landfills. at least with the pine and the wheat one mom can feel a little better environmentally. also some are packaged in containers that can't be recyled easily. the pine does come with some sawdust...but it's cheaper than some for what it does. of course...mom still has issues with my using the dogs food bowls and bed for my restrooms...yes..it's personal!
