Hi kitties!! I hate to disturb you from your naps, but I am having some litter issues. We use clumping litter, because I like it, and because it's easy to scoop up the liquids. The problem is that it sticks to my feet and it tracks everywhere. My mom often disturbs me from my sleep so that she can wash my feet! Today she woke me up, moved my body, and vacuumed the litter out from under me! I have CRF, so I urinate a lot. My liquid clumps are huge. I have to have a low-sided litter box, because of my arthritis. However, my sister Cauliflower is so obsessed with her litter that she gets it everywhere (while trying to cover it). We could go with a covered box, they could put down some kind of mat to catch the litter...I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

edit: FYI we have 3 boxes that are located on concrete floor

Hi Fiesta Cat!wave I'm Toulouse!! I am borderline diabetic and I urinate a lot too. Mom maybe 2 years ago found this great Tidy Cat Crystals litter. It comes in a small jog and only weighs about 3 pounds. Walmart is about the only place mom finds it. But we love it!! The crystals are all blue and white so it's pretty! There is NO dust cause I'm ashtmatic too!! It absorbs all the urine in the crystals so you don't have any strong odors and it doesn't stick to your paws. Now if your mom wants to try it.... have her mix half of it with your regular litter at first so you can get used to it. Then have her gradually wean you off of the old litter. It may feel funny on your little paws at first. I just love it and you can still throw it around in the box which is what I like to do! It also lasts up to 30 days! I kid you not! The only thing you have to remove are the stools you leave behind. laugh out loud It's a little expensive but it really works. Now I'll be honest, mom changes it every 3 weeks because I may urinate some days more than others. If you try it, let me know! I highly recommend it!! Good Luck my friend!way to go

Fiesta Cat, I think there may be a litter box out there now to buy, which has three high sides but a lower cutout on the fourth side -- kind of like a U -- to allow Olde Furts like us to get into it easily. That could help part of your problem.

Your mom could make a special box if she can't find one to buy. Get a high-sided plastic box (either a litter box or a home storage container) and cut that special opening in one side.

Thanks Toulouse & Scooter!! I'd like to try the new litter, although I can be very picky!! The deeper boxes sounds like a good idea. How about the special carpeting that is supposed to track the litter so that it doesn't get all over the house?

Cement boots are a problem if you pee a lot thinking I use Scoop Away and it works just fine for me. I have a litter mat in front of my litter box. It doesn't help too much. Then again, I don't use it. I prefer to wipe my feet on the rug next to the litter box. At least it's a washable bathroom rug and not a fancy rug.

Fiesta, are you interested in an angel's experience?

When I was OLD (19), Mom tried to switch me to clumping litter. It was new back then. I got those clumps all OVER my feet. I was getting my feet washed all the time and hated it.

My grammy finally said to Mom: "I'll buy her the kind of litter she wants. I can't stand to watch the poor thing." You have to know, that Grammy was (and is) not fond of animals. One time she saw me fall off a chair and said: "I felt so sorry for her, I almost touched her". MOL! So, for Grammy to take pity on me and offer to buy me litter was quite an occasion.

We went back to regular litter. Mom would put a saucepan of litter in the box, I would pee, she would change it. It was a great way to keep track of my pee volume, too! It worked for us, but I don't know if it would in multiple cat households.

well, PURRsonally I use scoop away litter, a low sided box to get in and out of easily and we have cement floors; well, under the tile stuff, but mom bought a bathmatt, the kind that's like a huge towel and put it just a bit under the litter box so that when I step out, I'm stepping on the bath matt towel thingie; my box is in a "corner" so that I can only get in or out on two sides, but there is enough of the towel matt stuff that sticks out that I have to walk on and most of the litter stays there and it helps dry me feet too...pretty good...

Fiesta Cat, I have the same problem! I have CRF (so I am a waterworks) and am 22 years old so I needed a low box, but my two little brothers love to build monuments to their poops and are always knocking the litter out of the box. So we did what Scooter said, we got a box (I think it's made by Rubbermaid?) at Petsmart that is really high on three sides and has a low place to walk into the box in the front. It works pretty well for all three of us. (we have three cat boxes, but this one is our favorite to use) As far as litter goes, I have a problem where I basically stand in my own pee and then the clumping litter clumps all over my back feet. My Mom is constantly washing my feet too! And shaking my bedding out because it is full of litter. We have seen the crystals, they look so weird...but Toulouse sounds like a big fan! We just got a brand new box of the Arm & Hammer litter (swayed by the ads here on Catster) Toulouse, what brand are your crystal?

wave Hi FC! We are crazy about the World's Best Litter. It is very soft but made from corn so it is 100% natural. Clumps very well. (there is one
for multi cat households) NO DUST not much tracking.Doesn't stick to you paws. Aw, man it is great.
It is a bit pricey but to us well worth it.
Good luck to everyone. IF you try World's Best let us know what you
think

I use the crystals, too. I use Tidy Cats brand, which Mom can get at PetsMart, PetCo or Target but often finds cheapest at the grocery store. WalMart here only sells the small jug and she buys the 8 lb. one because I have a big box. I think it runs about $13 - $17. Mom uses about 2/3 of the 8 lb. jug at one time and changes it about every 3 weeks, so it could be pricey for multiple cats/multiple boxes.

I track the crystals out of the box. Mom bought some crystals at Trader Joe's, much cheaper and it works just as well. The pieces of "crystal" were larger and I didn't track them nearly as much, but Mom thought it felt a little rough for my feet so went back to Tidy Cats. I never complained about the Trader Joe's brand, though.

I'm not picky about litter -- I'll use anything, but Mom is picky. She likes that there's no dust, no scooping (just stir!) and no bad-smelling pee clumps waiting all week for the garbage pickup. Like Toulouse said, the poop has to be scooped. My poop goes in the Litter Locker! laugh out loud

I've never tried the World's Best Litter.
