Absolutely everything by Tamora Pierce, particularly the Alanna series. I also adore Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings which pretty much goes without saying. Even though they are some of the most disturbing books I've ever read I also loved the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson which starts with "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". In case you can't tell I really like books that are part of a series!

We love Harry Potter too, Hillary! All of our names are from Harry Potter--well, at least Robby Jay is if you call him RJ. smile

We love Lord of the Rings even more! We read somewhere that Game of Thrones was the closest thing to the depth and creativity of LOTR, so we got a used paperback, but haven't read it yet!

We could not read the Dragon Tattoo book, although we started it. We are big weenies. REALLY big weenies!

Hi! I'm new here ... fluffy Molly and Emma just invited me. big hug Reading through this thread, Mama and I see so many of our favorites ... it's hard to choose just one! We love:

Barbara Kingsolver
Margaret Atwood
John Steinbeck
The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
Tony Hillerman's Navajo mysteries
Ursula K. LeGuin
and some books by Robert A. Heinlein, particularly The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Stranger in a Strange Land.

Lately we have been reading lots of Scandinavian fiction. Kerstin Ekman and Arnaldur Indridason are two current favorites. On the lighter side of things, we like Harry Potter, and this summer we are whipping through all the Warriors series ... it's far from great writing, but I love Warriors anyway, especially since I was once a feral kitty and so were many in my family! My Warrior name is Gingerswirl. laugh out loud

We also like reading nonfiction accounts of life off the beaten track - whether it's Thoreau or Jon Krakauer.

Chirps and mrrrrs,
Pixie

It is hard to make a list, so mommy decided to introduce three authors that she loves and she will name some books:

1. Dostoyevsky: Crime and Punishment (It is truly a work of art!!!) and The Karamazov Brothers.

2. José Saramago (a Portuguese Nobel Price writer): O ensaio sobre a cegueira (Blindness), Sobre todos os nomes (All the names) and O homem duplicado (The double). Saramago is the most inteligent and clever write in Portuguese. If you know Portuguese, you MUST read his books, if you don’t read it translated!

3. Gabriel García Márquez (a Colombian Nobel Price writer): Cién años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). This book is so poetic… It is beautiful!
