That is spooky, Emma! But it is kind of cool how those monsters dissolve, I think!

We are SUPPOSED to be reading Ladies of Liberty by Cokie Roberts for our book club. We were supposed to read it last month, too, but nobody finished it, so we extended it. We STILL do not seem to be reading it. Apparently no appeal right now.

We are still reading Sergei's book, The Master and Margarita, but we need to start over because we have been so busy that we had to put it down and now we cannot remember anything.

Yours, hoping things have settled down,
Luna & Kingsley

I picked up a very FUN book at our favorite used book store while we were down at Grandma's house. You know those Tuscany books by Frances Mayes? Under the Tuscan Sun? Bella Tuscany? Etc., etc?

Well, this book is called The Reluctant Tuscan : How I Discovered My Inner Italian by Phil Doran.

He was a Hollywood sit-com writer (The Wonder Years and Who's the Boss) who decided to leave Hollywood and go to Tuscany where his wife had bought a derelict old stone house to restore. The book is about restoring their marriage and restoring their house and restoring his self-worth and sanity. It is very funny, very readable.

I recommend it for a great beach or hammock read!

Hi!
Right now I have 2 books on my plate, one is called Incubus Dreams. It is an Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novel. Book 11 I think. This is my guilty pleasure/trashy book!

My other book is my serious book, it is called Ada Blackjack. It is about an Inuit woman who traveled with a team of explorers on an Arctic expedition. It is a very good book.

I have this thing for reading Arctic exploration books, they are very interesting!

Hi Oliver Pantherfoot!

We KNOW how that is! For awhile we read everything there was to read about climbing Mt. Everest! We have not visiting the Arctic or the Antarctic except in the Pole to Pole Michael Palin book which we loved. We are busy right now trying to choke our way out of the Dust Bowl! What a horrible time that was!

And guilty pleasure? PLEASE! There IS no guilt! Read whatever is fun! Well, except for those Twilight books, maybe.

We are reading The People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.

It came highly recommended to us by several friends, and so far we are enjoying it, but not quite as much as they did.

The story is about a woman who is an expert historian and restorer of ancient books and manuscripts. She is hired to work on this beautifully illustrated old Jewish Haggadah. She discovers some odd things--an insect wing in the binding, stains, etc. Every other chapter of the book tells the story of how that particular item became part of the book. And the other chapters are about the restorer, Hannah, and her own story.

It is a good book, but we like it less than we thought we would after the build-up our friends gave it. On the other hand, we are only about half way through, so maybe More Will Be Revealed.
