 | | | | We are reading The People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.
It came highly recommended to us by several friends, and so far we are enjoying it, but not quite as much as they did.
The story is about a woman who is an expert historian and restorer of ancient books and manuscripts. She is hired to work on this beautifully illustrated old Jewish Haggadah. She discovers some odd things--an insect wing in the binding, stains, etc. Every other chapter of the book tells the story of how that particular item became part of the book. And the other chapters are about the restorer, Hannah, and her own story.
It is a good book, but we like it less than we thought we would after the build-up our friends gave it. On the other hand, we are only about half way through, so maybe More Will Be Revealed.
