OK, I know most of you probably won't condone this but do you know anyone who feeds raw only once or twice a week? Kolbe gets RMBs occasionally but my fiance will just not budge on it being her entire diet, especially now that we have Guster. He doesn't even really approve of the Canidae they eat because it costs more than what he originally fed Kolbe (Dad's) and he thinks it's all a gimmick/scam despite my references and articles proving otherwise.

Anyway...it's getting warm up here in Buffalo now so we're spending more time outside, and we have a real live backyard now. I'd love to be able to serve some nice RMBs instead of kibble once or twice a week while we are hanging out in the yard. I don't know if I'll ever get fiance to budge for an all-raw diet but maybe he'd be more open if he was able to see the benefits first-hand, or at least see how much more they enjoy it.

What are your thoughts? Keep in mind the $$ thing with him...I can't go too crazy and get very exotic stuff at first because fiance will flip. I need some time to "open his eyes" a little....

Feeding raw "once in a while" can't hurt! Keep in mind that, though, that some dogs may have trouble transitioning between the raw and kibble. I've heard people recommend not to feed kibble and raw in the same day as they are both digested slightly differently. Depending on the dog, an occasional meal of raw might give runs or tummy troubles. But if your pooches are fine with it, it definitely won't hurt to offer them raw a few times a week.

If you are going to offer a raw meal now and then, I would recommend going to the grocery store or meat market and picking up some fresh fryer chickens! You can pick them up pretty cheap and they are small enough that they will only last a few meals (depending on the size of the dogs) so you won't have loads of doggy left-overs sitting around. I just quarter them up and each dog gets a piece. They LOVE it!

Thanks for the tip w ith the fryer chickens, Gio. Yes, if I can start out this way I would plan to replace 2 kibble meals per week with 2 raw meals per week...so they wouldn't get any kibble on the same day that they would be getting any raw meals. I know in the Food & Nutrition forum some people do mix in one day, but I have a funny feeling it wouldn't settle with Guster's stomach too well...

I feed my dog home cooked vs kibble, but she also gets raw 1-2 times a week. She gets the Nature's Variety medallions. I don't have the nerve yet to go to RMB. So for now, I feed medallions. Maybe later I will try a chicken wing, ox tail, or something. Some of us need more steps to get comfortable..hehe
