I wonder if we all eat different diets or similar? I eat Iams. I wonder if switching to a different brand, like Nutro or Canidae would help? My vet seems to think it doesn't really matter, but what do you all think?

Our vet does not seem to think there is a difference either. We currently eat Beneful kibble (but are looking to switch to a higher quality brand) and Natural Balance canned (well, at least Mac eats the canned). We have also started some fruits (namely apples) and boiled chicken as well. We'd also like to learn more about what others who have seizures eat.

I was eating Back To Basics from Beowulf Natural Feeds, but my Mom is having me try *Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul*, Large breed adult, to see if it makes any difference in my seizures. (The new kind doesn't have any corn in it, and corn has a bad rap when it comes to causing allergies in lots of dogs.)

We also eat lots of raw carrots, apples, and sometimes bananas.

I think I am going to try to eat more veggies. I don't eat any, but I like cucumbers and carrots, mom just doesn't give them to me regularly. I wonder if that will help any? Thanks for the idea Frankie.

I eat boiled or "nuked" plain chicken tenders, Royal Canin for chi's for Kibble, my homemade turkey muffins for treats, and "gasp!" I love Meaty Bone dog biscuits and Ol' Roy Dinner Rounds for treats! Works for me! smile NO BEEF and no fat. It's a delicate balancing act to get the carbs & protein and not get too much of one or the other, but most of the time, I know which one I need and I eat more of one than the other when I get out of balance.

My name is Jill and I am a Jack Russell with epilepsy. My mom found out that grains help to cause my seizures (along with any preservatives or artifical flavorings) so she homecooks for me. I don't eat a lot (but I sure would like to!!!), so it isn't too much work for her and I LOVE the stuff. She says it has cooked chicken, vegetables and sweet or white potatoes in it. She also gives me funny pills called vitamins, fish oil, and calcium everyday. I feel GREAT and it helps keep the seizure monster away, along with my Phenobarbital and Potassium Bromide. If I get even ONE treat with grains or presevatives in it I will have a seizure! So my mom does her best to keep people at the dog park from giving me their treats. My treats are better anyway. They are dehydrated chicken breast, bully sticks (yum!!!) and dehydrated sweet potatoes. I LUV EM ALL!!!

Wow, Jill, that is very interesting. Grain? It's so strange what triggers the seizures in each of us. I think I need to start eating more raw stuff.

Hi everybody!
My name's Liz and I eat Solid Gold Wolf King large breed dog food. When I started having seizures, (that was last April and I have only had three, I take 700 mg. of potassium bromide twice a day) my mom e-mailed the Solid Gold folks and asked them about the mercury level in their food because it has a lot of salmon. They told us that the salmon is caught wild and tested for mercury before they put it in the food. Hmmm, I wonder of we can believe that? I hope so, because I really love my dog food. I eat four cups a day and I would eat more if my mom would let me. It's made out of bison and salmon and lots of other good stuff. The company designed the recipe to help Great Danes and other big dogs live longer. I only weigh 60 lbs. and my mom wants me to ask this question: Has anybody read about the pros and cons of feeding large-breed dog food?

Love and sloppy poodle kisses,

Liz

I dunno about Large breed adult having an effect, but thats what I eat, because, well, I *AM* a large breed, though not quite adult yet. Mom doesn't let me have any preservatives or flavorings either.

I, too, get vitamins- fish oil capsules, garlic capsules, vitamin C and Glucosamine/chondroitin.

Cody is fed his Perscription z/d and raw beef heart, the raw beef heart is high in taourine which is known for reducing seizures.
