I need help. I used to stay in an x-pen when my mommy left for work. She has started to leave me in the house not in the pen. I want to be free and I really like it. Today I decided to chew on one of her chairs, which I have never done before. I left shavings of the wood all over. My mommy was really mad. What shoulld I do? I dont want to do this, but I could not help it. Any help would be appreciated.

XOXOXO

There are two products that might help with that. There is a spray called "bitter apple" that can be sprayed on the chair leg to deter from chewing. I have used a "stay off" spray on the garbage cans as well on the couch etc that actually works by keeping the dog away from that area. Harley is very stubborn and it worked- you just have to remember to re-apply. smile I hope that helps allow your dog free reign!

Hi Sophie:

I'm sorry your mommy got real mad at you. It's not completely your fault. You didn't know any better. Being one year old, you are still very young and will hopefully learn from your mistakes. Your mommy should also learn from this mistake and not allow you free run of the house. It is also for your own protection as there may be other dangers lurking in the house (ie electrical cords, poisonous houseplants etc). My mommy put me in my crate for the first year and ahalf of my life. Then I graduated to being gated off in the upstairs hall. I did well for 6 months and only recently does she trust me to have free run of the house and not worry about me causing any damage to the furniture and house. My mommy also tried the bitter apple spray but she learned that it did not deter me from chewing on things. That was a waste of money. She taught me by telling me NO in a very stern voice. Within time, I learned proper behavior. You too will do fine....just be patient. For now, it is best that you stay in your pen. Just make sure you mommy gives you lots of toys and some chewies to keep you busy.

Be good and stay safe Sophie! Rest assure your mommy still loves you very much!

Hugs,

Pepper

Have your mommy buy some Bitter Apple spray at the dog store. It tsates BAD to us dogs. I used to do that too, but I grew out of it. You probably will too.
