Allergic to cat litter?

What about the litter "Yesterday's News", made from recycled newspaper. Have seen this at PetsMart. Hope you can find something that works for your cats.

The reason I don't want to use corn/wheat/soy litters is mostly because of his food allergies, because even though they don't normally ingest litter, if he cleans his feet after using the litter he could still ingest some of it. He does have both environmentally allergies and food allergies too.

I've used Yesterdays News before (the clumping type) and it didn't cause any health issues but I didn't like the way it smelled or how it would dissolve into dust after being used...

There's also some investigations going on as to whether grain based litters can contain alfatoxins.

Btw, I tried the Green Tea Litter and it smells and works fantastic. One problem. It's sort of chunky and it when it tracks, if you step on it, crunch and all over the place. But other than that I like it! The scent is not strong at all, very mild and subdued. It's very absorbent too. I'd say for the price I found on that site, give a bag a try. I couldn't believe how much some places are charging either, crazy!!!!

Thanks for the info! I am little leery about the Green Tea one because it says it's made of wood but it doesn't say what kinds?

Hi Mister Gray! Lucy has allergic reactions to litter, too. She has food and environmental allergies. She used to get sores and lesions between her toes- it was horrible. The only litter that seems to work for her is plain old Arm and Hammer Unscented (or fragrance free). It took me about 7 years to find a litter that works for her. This is the one and we are sticking to it smile

Hi BB,

I believe it is clay (but to be honest, I'm not really sure). The box says 99% dust free but I do find it dusty, especially when filling new boxes. It's hard to say though, because I live in the desert so there's lots of dust everywhere, anyways smile Price-wise, I've found that Petco is way overpriced on this product (sometimes $8 higher for the same size box). Petsmart has a better price and Target has the best price that I've found.

Can someone explain to me why Petco is SO overpriced on litter? They're competitive with food prices but even my independent holistic pet store is cheaper than they are on World's Best litter. PetSmart is also reasonable, so it's not a chain thing. Anyone know what it is?

I don't know but I agree BK. I don't get it either. I'd never buy litter there, it's nuts! shrug why don't you write to them and ask?

You're right about Petco, I was there once and I was going to buy some Breeze pellets and they were more than twice as much than what those cost at Walmart.
