The Peaceful Forest
Sasha, the young, silvery white cat with black spots was in a tree having a peaceful moonlight snack. The crickets were chirping and the moonlight was glistening on her snow leopard-like fur. Sasha often stayed up at night eating fish and voles on her own, while her companions silently slept in the cave den under the humungous, old, mature oak. Sasha knew she was safe, first of all, because most animals above her on the food chain couldn’t climb, but most of all because every cat was surrounded by trees, tons of trees, and since these cats had lived in these woods their whole life, they strongly believed that if there was a lack of trees, or at least very few trees, that they would be in serious danger.
Sasha slightly rested her eyes, and her eyelids went down, so then she was probably tired. So then she jumped from branch to branch, then silently landed on her paws. Sasha was very agile, she could run very fast, jump from several branches, jumping down from high objects without a sound and scamper across thin objects and think nothing of it.
At the very crack of dawn, the five young cats woke up. Rose, the white and semi-peachy colored cat, jumped to a vast rock to have the daily morning meeting.
“Alright,” she called to the rest of the cats, ”we need to find some food on a hunt because I’m starving and craving for some fish. So Moonlight, Ace, and me will go hunting.”
“What about me?” Sasha hastily meowed out loud.
“Alex is sick,” Rose answered, “so you need to stay here and keep him company while we go on a hunting trip, Sasha, he can’t stay here alone when he’s ill.”
“I’m really sorry, Sasha.” Alex wheezed, his dark gray fur looking duller and messier than ever.
“That’s okay, you can’t help it.” mewed Sasha.
Rose, Moonlight, and Ace set off on a hunt. Rose looked around, she noticed that only Moonlight was with her. Where was Ace?
“What’s goin’ on, Moonlight?” Rose asked.
Moonlight’s copper eyes looked confused. “What?” He asked.
“Where’s Ace you ant-wit?” Rose hastily snapped.
“Oh.” Moonlight meowed. “Who cares.”
“Who cares?” Rose repeated. “We can’t just walk off and leave him.”
A bellow of anger had startled both Rose and Moonlight. It sounded just like Ace. Rose and Moonlight sprinted as swift as their legs could take them, and then saw Ace was standing there in fear and anger as though a bear had just stolen his food.
“What in these great woods is going on?” Moonlight angrily asked.
“It’s just one tree Ace, it’s not the end of the world.” Rose meowed in an amused manner.
“Every tree counts, Rose,” Ace explained. “Trees are an extremely important part of our world.”
Ace was obsessed with nature. He thought every part of it was so important. If any cat respected nature more than anything else, they were Ace.
Back at home, Sasha sat on a molten log, deep down she was very bored and wishing she could go on a hunt like the rest.
This is taking forever, thought Sasha. This better not have anything to do with Ace and those trees again like it almost always is because I am REALLY hungry and I am not going to be able to take the rage if I find out my food is late because of that.
“They really should be back soon.” Sasha declared.
“Yeah, I hope so because I’m getting really hungry.” Alex mewed. “I’m still wondering what that holler was about, if I’m not mistaking it kinda sounded like Ace.” Alex made a loud sneeze that made the fur on Sasha’s pelt stand up.
There was soon finally a scent of three cats, but no food.
“Where’s the food?” Sasha hastily asked. “I thought you all were out there to hunt, not to-to kill time and make us sit here as bored as grass laying on the ground doing absolutely nothing.”
Sasha wasn’t happy at all. It was annoying enough that it took them forever to get back, and now on top of that she didn’t even get any food.
If this has anything to do with Ace and his big thing with nature then I may just have to scratch that furball right across the face! Sasha thought.
“You’ll be fine, Sasha.” Rose softly mewed.
It took awhile for Sasha and Alex to notice that Ace was sobbing.
“S-some idiot c-cut down a tree, a poor, innocent tree th-that did nothing wrong.” Ace sobbed.
“One tree.” Sasha irritably meowed. “Just one tree kept you from catching any food. What in these great woods is wrong with you Ace?”
“You don’t understand!” Ace sobbed. “A tree falling down is much more harmful than you not having the right to stuff your face, Sasha!”
Sasha and Ace continued to argue continuously.
“That is ENOUGH!” Rose angrily meowed.
At evening, it was finally quiet again. Sasha was still a little unhappy but still decided to go catch a rabbit for herself to eat after all her hunger. For something so petty to argue over, it had done lots of harm. It was as if Ace and Sasha’s friendship was over.
That night, three of the cats went to sleep in the cave den. Sasha didn’t bother climbing a tree though, it just reminded her of Ace. So this time, she sat at the end of the rock where Rose always had her meetings. Rose was the oldest of the five young cats, who were all supposed to be close friends, or a family. Rose was the starter of the group, and eventually started adding other cats to her gang.
Sasha was used to being alone at night, but not that night.
“You know it was just one argument.” a cool familiar voice mewed. It was Moonlight, his black and white fur looking as shiny as ever.
Sasha looked back at Moonlight, who was too cool to look Sasha in the eye with complete contact.
“Let’s go to sleep.” He mewed.
Sasha and Moonlight padded to the cave den, this was the peaceful woods.
