i like Embrace. They are the best if you are the type who wants to treat everything! Some of my babies where too old for the insurance but I got Scooter and Ernie and Bob and Norbert insured with Embrace.

Kaci is insured by Trupanion and I'm happy with them. After I met the deductible for her hospitalization for her kidney failure -- think it was $500? -- they paid as promised. Kaci has hyperthyroidism, considered a preexisting condition, and they don't cover anything to do with her hyperT and they don't cover routine office visits. Kaci was 13 when she was insured and too old for any other insurance plan, with the possible exception of the one from the ASPCA, but their premium was too high for me. I choose Trupanion because they would cover her and the monthly premium fits my budget. I have no complaints.

Just a couple of things to check when you're trying to decide about insurance.

(1) Some companies raise the premiums as the cat ages, even if you start the insurance when young. That may not be all that bad, but you should know what you're getting.

(2) Will you have coverage for life for chronic illnesses which start after you take out the policy? Some companies apparently count each new year as the beginning of a "new" policy. So if you have an illness that begins in one year, it can become a "pre-existing" illness for following years and may not be covered, even if you keep continuous coverage with that company. shock (PurinaCare and PetPlan are both okay on this point -- I did not check any others.)

Pets Best and PetPlan both have pretty good policy structures and provide plans that cover chronic diseases that may last over multiple policy periods. They also have no age restrictions and the only real restriction for cats is that they don't cover pre-existing diseases.

The insurance review sites mentioned before are good. I insured Freckles with Pet's Best when I adopted her aged 15. When she was 16/17 Freckles needed expensive tests and liver surgery and later developed CRF. I was expecting the spanish inquisition when I made a claim but they paid out everything really quickly with no quibbling so I didn't have to carry a balance on my credit card. They paid over $7000 in total and paid based on my vets bills rather than some schedule that didn't reflect the real costs. The most amazing thing was that when I 1st took out the insurance I'd accidentally entered Freckles age as 5 months not 15 years 5 months and I only realised that when I made my 1st claim. I just offered to pay the additional premium and they accepted that and didn't use it as an excuse to cancel the policy. So I'd definitely recommend Pet's Best for otehr cats.
