Hey R&R, maybe try and use a different type of meat, or avoid feeding him for a day, then when he is really hungry give him the raw. it worked with lucky after a few times, and a couple of times mixing some natures variety into Wellness canned food she found the joy of raw.
then again you are only doing it to clean their teeth so it may not be a good way for you to do it that way.

what you can try and it works, i used it on lucky, is play them out a bit with a laser pan, and as they're playing throw the raw kibble on the floor and move the laser around until it falls on the kibble, then stop pressing the laser and see what happens. as they run to catch the laser they are building an appetite.
mine searched for the laser for a few seconds until they realized there was raw meat infront of them!! I think that was part of how i managed to get lucky to start eating raw, she saw it not as a meal but as a pray she caught. (though i do have to admit the cat is not the most athletic of the feline race big grin but she loves catching those shoe laces and then going for a walk with it.

Panther, I'm glad this thread has been helpful for you! It's too early to tell if it will help with the tartar already on Ralphie's teeth, or help prevent it on Randy's, but I am hopeful! They're both eating gizzards easily now. Next we'll try some plain chicken, and then move on to some bone-in meats!

Lucky, the way I was finally able to get Ralphie to eat more than just a couple bites was to add some gravy from canned food. The next time I offered gizzards he ate them no problem, and I believe he's had them twice more since. I'm sure he'd like it even better if it were live prey that he could catch!

I'm a bit worried about your advice to avoid feeding a cat for a day. Long periods of time without food can lead to many health problems in cats, and even 24 hours may be dangerous unless under medical supervision for a specific reason. I split my cats' meals into 3 per day so they don't even go 12 hours between meals, because I personally believe even that is too long. Please be very cautious when giving advice to withhold food from a cat, as it is potentially dangerous to do so.
