I read that cats, especially male (of COURSE) use their poopie to mark their territory. Harvey is letting you know that it's time for the kids to start going off to college or wherever they go. The crown on him in his profile photo is so Harvey. I know that once the Magnificent Seven are off to their new lives, Harvey will be back to his normal self.

I was just thinking how lucky I've been when bringing cats home. I've never had any issues, except for the one semi-feral I fostered for two days who shredded my left hand when I tried to stop her from leaping out our second-story window. (I did but paid dearly for it.) Now, Izzie and Lily play and play and play. It's kind of comical to see 15 pound Izzie and 7 pound Lily wrestling. You KNOW who comes out on top. Izzie is such a gentleman. They also sleep on my lap together. It could have worked out so much worse Even Ms. Delilah, the Divine Diva, tolerates the new one. She also tolerated my late, sweet Ernie. I read so many questions from people who have such acceptance issues on this site. I'm sooooo lucky! Or is it karma, mojo or chi?

Well, we weren't having any real problems until now. Even though Harvey occasionally swats Chibi, it's not that serious. More to the point is that he and Spike have decided not to try to compete to see who is going to be the alpha male. Leila and Chibi get along well--sometimes females can be rather, uh, catty. It's just as Boris said--first Herbie came and went, and now these brats who get all the good food and lots of attention from Mommy. And Mommy herself is getting a bit tired of the brats, too. Nobody told me that I'd have to toilet train them myself!!! I feel rather overwhelmed by cats. Now I know why most breeders keep the majority of their cats in cages--not that I plan to do that, although I am going to put together the playpen in order to make it possible for Harvey to access the living room (aka the nursery) without having to run into any little tykes.

the playpen is probably a good idea...harvey can have the run of the living room, and he can walk up and hiss at them and feel superior. of course they can't be in there all the time, but it would give him a break. and it would give you a break. that's what playpens are all about. wink
having a kennel for rhymon was helpful for us in the beginning-but she was feral and needed a place to hide out while still being "around people". like izzie, we've been incredibly lucky not to have major territorial issues...i think it's just a lot to ask of harvey to adjust to seven kitties AFTER the herbie fiasco, and he's letting you know how he feels. as it becomes routine, the urgency of the need to express himself should pass. that's opinion....but lacking a time machine to see how he does the next time leila (or chibi) has a litter, i can't offer you facts.

Harvey was HAPPY last night! I put the kittens in an enclosure in another room and Harvey bounded up on the bed (which he almost never does), lay down, and groomed himself happily for around half an hour. Chibi was happy too, and even though she was lying next to him, he didn't complain. (Heh heh, now he knows that there are worse things in life than Chibi.) I think it's a bit early to have the kittens sleep with me anyway, since they're not fully toilet-trained, so for the time being I will be putting them in their playpen or cage at night--of course, with food, water, and a toilet. Then, when they're fully toilet-trained, I can alternate kitten nights and Harvey nights, thus socializing the kittens and keeping Harvey happy at the same time. Meanwhile, Spike is pretty resigned to whatever happens, and Chibi is pretty oblivious, too. Well, now I know how bothered Harvey is by the kittens, and how happy he is when he has me to himself. Har har, another cat show this weekend, and the next, and the next--he'll be having LOTS of together time with Mommy, along with a hundred other cats and even more people.

yep. it may be a case of he doesn't care what else happens as long as he gets what he wants. i know, i know that sounds horrible. let me try again. if his needs are met, he'll probably adapt to the rest. he may be thinking:"she finally got the message! let's reward her!" and thus jumped on the bed. laugh out loud

Glad Harvey seems to be getting used to the kittens......or at least he has stopped leaving you "presents". I am so lucky that Emma and Louie accepted Charmaine. Pete, however would rather she was on another planet......but he simply avoids her.

Know it must be hard to pay enought atttention to the older cats with the kittens taking so much time and being so CUTE!!!
