We just added oliver to our family and he was born w/no tail. I have no info on his parents or siblings...i got him from a lady and i have no idea where she got him. So is any cat born w/no tail a manx? I have been researching manx cats but just can't figure out if any cat born w/out a tail is a manx...or is manx just a figure of speech for tail less cats?

Manx is a breed most known for having no tail (rumpy) but many have a very short tail (stumpy) or sometimes a full tail (longy).
