to play devils advocate for a moment...what about breeders? is there a way that they can keep unaltered animals or will they be forced to either move or fix their cats. and when i tal about breeders i mean good ones, that show their cats and do all the health testing and such to make ure they have healthy kittens. not sure it's completely fair for them. i know there is a severe overpopulation problem with cats But if we fix Every cat what will happen when no more kittens are born. next thing you no certain breeds will disappear and the gene pools will be much more limited. now i think that you should have to show proof of health testing and showing if you are to have unaltered cats that you plan to breed(kind of like a liscence) and possibly pay a little extra to keep them ect, ect, ect.

now all my animals are fixed and i'm sure any future ones as well unless i decide to breed Sphynx in the future.

hope that makes sense and doesn't offend anyone, just my 2 cents

Well I'm sure it's been thought of, but maybe that's where the $125 license fee came into play (it was mentioned by another poster.) I would hope a breeder wouldn't have to pay that or else prices will go even higher for anyone wanting a purebred animal.

Mandatory spay/neuter laws will not do anything to curb overpopulation. Laws like this don't really get policed anyways. Education is the key.

Yes education does help. My friend Punkin who lives downstairs was not fixed when someone threw him out or let him out. We have so many feral cats around here that it's hard to keep up when someone comes along and let's another kitty out without being fixed. People assume that cats can take care of themselves even when they have kittens after kittens, but many suffer from disease, cold winter, cars etc etc. There are many low cost spay and neuter clinics in Boston that anyone can have them fixed. My wish is for people to take a little $$ and spent it in the low cost clinic instead of other non-items for themselves then maybe the suffering would stop.

Gee sorry everyone for going on and on .........
