We found a little kitten outside yesterday. He was mewing all day until we finally found him and brought him in that evening. He's TINY - 6-8 weeks tops. I have six adult cats. Everyone is neutered. Two of them are very large males and two others are rather cranky around the other cats. The other two are probably OK. The Kitten is in the bathroom right now. Everyone has hissed at the kitten smell on me. I'd love to keep the kitten, but I'm afraid he's too small to introduce to my cats. I'm afraid someone would hurt him and I can't be there all the time every day. I don't want him to live in the bathroom for months, either. Any suggestions, advice? Thanks!

I have 4 cats (over 1 yr) and 1 kitten (11 months old). I have introduced Abbi (16 years old) to Perdita when she came to us at 6 weeks old. OK, Abbi was a bit miffed and stayed upstairs for 3 days, then proceeded to lick Perdita like she was her mother. Same with Ginge who was also 6 weeks old when he came to us. Admitted, I kept him in my room for a few weeks at night, but he ran with the others all day. Then Patch was born here and Ginge tried to get in with Perdita and the kittens, again I kept them in my room at night till I felt it safe to leave them. Really you have to try them together and see what happens. It won't happen overnight the acceptance, but please don't give up on the kitten.

It can work, it just takes time....introduce slowly.
When I lived back in Richmond Hill, little Akasha (years ago went to RB) was introduced to our 3 resident cats, 2 of them cranky, one curious. It was really funny. They would hiss at her, but only one would really give her a hard time. The others would hiss, and she would creep up to their food bowls and eat from them as they were hissing.
I find that once they re-establish the 'paw order' the new one becomes more tolerated.

It can work! It will just take time like Orange Ruffy said. When Kenji was found back in December, he was 5 weeks old and tiny, tiny! We had 4 inside cats--K.C., Gimli, Isis and Tabi. I think I only kept him in the bathroom while we were at work for a week or two. At night, he would sleep in a carrier on top of the bedroom dresser. After 4 nights though, he started sleeping in the bed by me. He did fine. K.C. is 20 pounds and Gimli is about 19-20 pounds. Well, what can I say about Gimli...he has more maternal instincts than all my females have combined. Tabi and Isis are an average 9 pounds. K.C. and Tabi did most of the hissing; they still do now, but they just hiss and run away, never attack. K.C. plays with Kenji often but it is Kenji amd Gimli that get along great. And guess who is the alpha cat of the house now? laugh out loud
