Hi,
I have to agree with previous posters, she is a DSH ^^
Also, the traits you mentioned are general kitten attributes (loves to play/climb) and, while she has a pretty coat, it doesn't resemble the marbled Bengal pattern. No worries though, kittens and cats are more than just pedigrees ^,^ I'd like to think that being purebred is just a way to insure and guarantee certain traits (both physical and otherwise).

I agree with Kaidan, its good to know, if, your cat has a breed, per say,
background. Persians are prone to PKD and HCM. Maine Coons and
Ragdolls, are prone to HCM. Other breeds have other issues.

A female tabby Maine Coon, named Cosey, won the show held in
Madison Square Garden, in 1895. Her silver color, that she won, is on
display at CFA.

Bengals. The newer breeds are now almost always sold desexed or with a desex requirement. Who knows? Some Bengal kitten could have escaped from the house and bred with another cat. But the likelihood of that is very, very, very small. As I've said over and over again on other threads, Siamese and Persians have been around since the days when breeders didn't have neutering requirements. Their genes are not uncommon in moggies. Of course, you'll never be sure.

I am not an expert on short haired cats. But the conclusion is that a moggie may or may not have some Siamese or Persian blood, but that the chances of their having genetic heritage from the newer breeds are small.

I am sorry to be repetitive here. There ARE purebreds without papers. Purebreds who somehow got lost or were abandoned at shelters. I still have yet to register my own kittens with the CFA and get them pedigrees, partly from being a new and not an experienced breeder, but partly because I don't want to give a pedigree to a cat until I have proof of their having been desexed. The cats I've sold for breeding purposes need a CFA number, and I've been a bit lazy on that. All of my cats have gone to good homes. And they are good cats.

She looks the typical Domestic Shorthair. Non pedigrees can come in all sorts of coat patterns, even ones that purebreds have.

As Kaya Skye has often pointed out, all this breed stuff is sort of surreal. Go with "domestic short hair" is my advice, and it's meant kindly. And I'm really sorry that this thread has turned ugly. You don't deserve that. But since you have Internet access, I would advise you to do a bit more research on breeds, as they seem to be of interest to you. Catsters can give lots of advice and knowledge, but there's a lot more out there on the Internet. I mean this kindly. I apologize for all the posts (some of them mine) that probably hurt you. The topic of cat breeds is actually very complicated compared to that of dog breeds. I wish you well.

We apologize again. Curiosity about breed is very common. I, personally, was just trying to give you information that I myself have gotten by going to hundreds of cat shows and being a breeder. I never meant to be unkind--only informative. One of the purposes of Catster is to educate cat owners--I am still a freshman at cat college. But I do know about breeds. I apologize for all of us for hurting your feelings, but stay on for the friendships and the information. You have gotten good information from a number of members. You have also been hurt by others. All I can say is that I'm sorry.

greenlee, if you want to list yourself as DSH/Bengal feel free. this is catster, not TICA or CFA.

however, my advice? go with DSH for now. take leila's advice and investigate cat breeds, starting with the Bengal. carefully observe greenlee, look at lots and lots of pictures. if after a few weeks of observation she just screams "i'm part Bengal!"...go for it.way to go

you're not breeding her, you're not showing her. you're loving her. if greenlee's markings, personality, etc. match well enough...so mote it be. if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it just might be a duck. it just might not be the AFLAC duck.
hmm...thinking

okay, let's try it this way. read up on how breeds are described. there are a lot of things that go into it-eye shape, eye placement, face proportion, ear shape and placement, face shape, skull shape, body type, body proportions...all of these things can come very, very near to matching and a cat not be "purebred". but "purebred" is an arbitrary tag. it means that this cat meets these standards, and we can trace the heritage that makes them that way. if greenlee meets the breed standards, or very near-then who can say?

siamese just ARE siamese-the defining of the breed standard was retroactively applied. first came the cat, because cats in asia were being cats. humans approved and admired, and gave them a name and the breed standard grew out of a DECRIPTIVE ANALYSIS of the existing cat that the Great Cat had wrought. in my opinion, for your purposes you can use the breed standards in just that way-as a descriptive analysis of greenlee. if she has, naturally occurring, the breed standards of a Bengal-well, you have more logic behind you.big grin

ignore the back and forth in this thread. keep your curiosity, and go with it where it leads. Greenlee can certainly be a DSH/Bengal on catster...or whatever breed YOUR research and best judgment indicates.

in the traditional sense, as leila says, Greenlee is somewhat unlikely to be part Bengal simply because most are desexed...but it is still possible.
