"We really want a dyson badly, But Ive heard recently that another maker has come up with the same design as Dyson.. I think its Hoover.. or Bissell. One of dose. "

I think you may be thinking about the Hoover Whisper. My Meowmmy bought one after reading a long thread on Fatwallet where one poster was specially patient and knowledgeable, and explained how that model is actually a Dyson clone that Hoover was able to manufacture because Dyson's original patent ran out. This model was only available at Walmart; it cost about $100 and it really does work wonderfully well.

But we got it a few months ago. I'm not sure they have it anymore because they came out with new models since, but the Fatwallet thread probably has updated information as to which of the newest models uses this technology. Also, it's called "Whisper" because it is supposedly quiet, but me and my sister Shunra still tuck our tails between our legs and scramble for the other end of the house the second the power button is pushed. It's not exactly silent.

It is a heavy piece, so it will not be practical if you need to frequently carry it up and down stairs. Otherwise, the only other thing my Meowmmy would improve would be the handle. It is made of one long unit which makes it somewhat awkward to work with when you are trying to vacuum something that is close to you, like if you are standing at the edge of the sofa and want to vacuum the cushion and edge of the sofa right in front of you. I wish they had made the handle in two parts so you can use it at hand's length, not only for things where you reach out. But the hose extends longer than you'd expect and it is quite good for things like vacuuming drapes or even corners of ceilings.

Adjusting the dial for carpet height is a bit tricky until you understand that to do it, you must tip the body of the vacuum backward, and then the dial turns more easily. I had to call Hoover to find that out, it's not in the manual.

Other than that, the suction is fantastic and remains steady and constant throughout the session. It picks up pet hair and dander thoroughly. It is very easy to empty, and fairly easy to empty it neatly without blowing dust all over (a la the Dyson it clones), although of course you need to take some care with that.

The expert - a vacuum collector - says that only the Dysons are better than this model. I don't have experience with too many others, but this was a great alternative for me since we couldn't afford the Dyson and this one is doing a great job for us.

Oh, before I forget, here is the link to the thread on Fatwallet (you'd probably save some time if you start from the most recent post and work backward):

And now I will nudge my Meowmmy back to the subject she came to Catster to research, how to transition us to wet food so that we don't even realize we're being manipulated big grin.

How exciting! We were chosen to as a lucky family to get to test the Dyson DC31 Animal
handheld vacuum! Overall reaction is love it. To be honest, Dad does normally does most of the vacuuming because Mom has bad allergies and back issues. Even Mom can use this one though. Really!

The unit is very simplistic to work, having a trigger finger power button, click in and out attachments, and a one-button release on the dust bin. The unit it light enough for easy maneuvering. Mom has bad allergies and with having me and my brother Damon, our hair ends up everywhere. The large amounts of hair on our beds and up on her bed to aggravate her allergies the worst, and with the DC31 Animal, she can just pick it up and clean off any area she needs to in just a few minutes. No big vacuum to lug out. The large attachment is great for the dog bed and has a pivot head to make it easy to do the corners and sides of the bed. The crevice attachment does really well on the cracks of my kitty beds.

Mom’s very favorite feature is that even though it has great suction, you can vacuum small rugs, flat cat beds, and even light blankets without the vacuum sucking up the object and getting all caught up.

There’s also a combination attachment which has a soft brush on the end, or you can slide the end out to be a small lint brush. This attachment works perfectly on vacuuming stuffed animals. Mom has lots of bears, and Dad had been begging her to put them all away since they collect dust, and with her allergies, not a good idea. But they were able to go over all the stuffed animals with the vacuum and it did a great job. We also used this attachment for cleaning our lampshades and cleaning off the fronts and backs of our fans.

Mom also tried the vacuum out on her car seats and it was great. No cords to drag out to the garage! The pivot head of the main attachment was just right for the seats and there is now no sign of Damon's black dog hair all over the back seats! (He just HAS to stick his head between the seats!) The crevice tool did the job for the seat cracks and in the grooves around and between the seats and under the gas a brake pedals.

Mom and Dad both had the small Shark vacuums before which had poor suction and never could be put back together correctly after cleaning. Those are now in the garbage can! And the Dustbuster we had totally died and had horrible suction to begin with.

We would have liked for there to be a longer attachment to reach into more places, but there is a Flexi-crevice accessory that can be purchased, which we will most likely get to reach some tough to get spots. It would also have been nice if there was a little bit of rubber on the grip to help keep from slipping if your hands sweat while using. Other than that, it’s a wonderful unit that’s easy to use and really great for keeping the dog and cat hair down ---as we know it ends up everywhere! If you have allergies and want the ease of being able to clean up the hair in minutes from beds, cars, furniture, and all the other millions of places it ends up, this is perfect for you.
