Shadow's update

This is a special place for cats to share their love and support for each other during difficult times; it's a place to light candles, give a "get well purr" and let everyfur know they are never ever alone.

I brough Shadow to the vet yesterday. He started a new medicine that is supposed to shrink the growth on his lip. In the mean time he got a nasty scratch on his eye, and it is having a hard time healing (which may be because of all the meds). I wanted his eye looked at, and the doctor told me that artifical tears would help, in addition to the antibiotic drops. The main problem is that the growth really shows no signs of improvement, and may be even a bit more swoolen. There are not many more options. There are a few more drugs, but the side affects may be a problem. Now it seems that even thought the biopsy was negative that it could be cancer, or if it isn't it is still seeming to be uncontrollable, and so there is not much difference. The vet is going to consult with a dental specialist, and I may take him in as well for a consult. It looks like things are turning bad. This is so heartbreaking, I can't even explain it. After all he has braved and come through. His body is healthy, he is interested in the things going on around him. He will actually sit on my plate at dinner, and help himself if I let him, but this terrible mouth growth has to cause him so much trouble. I do so hope that the dental expert has an idea or two. Please send prayers and purrss my baby needs them.

I just talked to the vet, and it doesn't look good. Either the stomatitis is so invasive that it is spreading up behind the eye, or in addition to the stomatits, the nerve sheeth cancer is back and has spread up and near the eye, and around. I really am against the radiation or the chemo, and really think for the moment I could still give the meds that he is already on and hope and pray he can get relief that way. He has been through so much, there is a tiny hope he can get relief with the Leukeran, but realisticly it should have worked by now. I am so devestated, but trying to keep the faith and keep praying for our miracle.

I've heard kitties usually take cemo really well without the nasty side-effects that people get. You may not want to rule that out just yet.
I'm purrrring for a miracle and whether you keep on your meds now or try the chemo for a while and see, I'm purrring you are comfortable and happy and see big improvement.

Many Big Black Cat Purrrrs straight from The Bridge to YOU, Shadow hug
