I've been seeing A LOT of problems with Natural Balance pet food lately. Some very serious. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any problems? We haven't eaten it in awhile but we have it on our safe foods list on our site and we're wondering if we should remove it at this point to be safe. The complaints on that site just keep pouring in and there are more dogs than cats having issues but still some cats. Anybody else having problems? Please let us know. We don't want any of the sick kitties on our site to get any sicker if we can avoid it. shock

We've been eating the Green pea and Salmon dry formula for about two months or so and we haven't had any problems. We are on the last pound or two of our third bag. Before that we were eating Blue Wilderness Salmon dry formula.
Thanks for telling us about this, Lacey. We will keep an eye out.

Okay Gimli, I waited just a bit because I didn't want to cause a panic. I hate to have kitties change their food, we know how difficult that is. But the complaints keep building up on that site and it's getting unnerving. Please keep me posted if you hear of anyone at all having issues okay? Thanks!! way to go

We will keep you posted, Lacey.
We were reading through the complaints and the cat owners mention only the duck and pea formula and the venison and pea formula. thinking

It is kind of strange but one of our really good friends who isn't here on Catster has found at least 5 pieces of latex in the cat food all on separate occasions. Makes me wonder what the heck is going on at their plants! Somebody else did email my mom too and tell me that lately the texture has seemed weird and their kitties didn't really want it. She thought they were being picky but I don't think that's the case now. shrug

Discussion going on, on another pet board, about this food. This is what they found.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/natural_balance.html

It was also mentioned, about the latex found in cat food, and this is from one post:

Wow. Lots of complaints going on for a looooong time. Many dogs with the same issues.

Snips from a FEW complaints:

diarrhea plus vomiting.
upset stomach, and has been shaking, and lethargic
notice what appeared to be a sandy substance
diarrhea and want to drink a lot of water
notice a change in the food and how much greasier it was coming out of the bags
digestive problems and diarrhea
everything cleared up when I switched my dog off this food
losing large patches of hair, and developed a skin infection. he was also very lethargic
digestive issues, vomiting and diarrhea to the extent that I sought veterinary care
lethargic

I have my own issues, with another brand of food. Very stinky poopies, diarea, throwing up, refused to eat it. I thought they were sick, until it dawned on me, they were not acting sick, like a sick cat would, quiet and hiding. They continued to run thru the house like crazy boys, at warp speed, fed them another kind, all issues were eliminated.

Paw mail me, I have more information to give you. wave

We use this food on occasion. Recently I did vomit in the canned salmon one, but then I appear to be having problems digesting fish. I do get the venison one and appear to be ok. Mom's wondering if I shouldn't get it then becuase of my health?

Could someone let us know? Mom had been giving it to me and there weren't problems except the forumla was changed a few months ago, because it's not as moist now and more 'pasty' and we're wondering about that.

Hi Lacey!! wave Sorry, didn't realize it was you, didn't recognize your picture, mol. laugh out loud
Been dealing with my own foodie issues, now my vet is involved, and she is going to get his cardiologist involved, after, the co told me, Bump should be on the "prescription" food for heart kitties, which, there ain't any. Their huge mistake. I could sell tickets to the conversation between the co and his cardiologist, mol.
big laugh

Bella, what are your health issues, will do my best to help you. wave

Natural Balance is one of the three brands of canned cat food we are using right now. We don't go for "exotic" things like venison or duck. We eat the turkey and chicken flavors and the "Ultra" (I think that's what it's called) flavor. We have not noticed any problem at all and mom scoops it out in little spoon fulls so we would have noticed latex.
