Hello furriends,

I was in a small independent Pet Store today looking at cat foods mainly grain - free canned & dry.
I asked the store manager about her thoughts on the takeover of P&G Procter & Gamble now owning, EVO, Innova, California Naturals.

She said to keep a watch on the labels to see if any changes are made, that I should be concerned about.
Do I get my magnifying glass out & look? shrug

My reason are not just for myself but for the safety of all our pets, cats & dogs.
We do not want to be scared & frightened over the last terrible tragedy from a very long list of bad food recall!

We all want what's best for all our pets, to ensure their whole health, happiness providing all we can with knowledge & education & especially for a lot of us who are struggling in these difficult economical times.

I feed Kally Kat EVO grain - free canned foods & a few other top quality brands such as Wellness CORE, Weruva, Tiki & byNature all grain - free canned foods.

I would like to hear from you our Catster furriends & all or anyone that feeds their furrbabies especially products from the Natura Co. how they feel about the changeover.
I went to the website I copied & Pasted this letter from the CEO of the Co.

I pray & hope everything will remain the same & not take this in another direction for the worse!

Thank you all for any valuable & helpful input for your support & time in regards to our family pets who are our furrbabies where their health & welfare is greatly the number one priority!

Lubbs,
Kally Kat & Mommy Liz ♥♥

Dear Natura Consumer,

I am pleased to announce the acquisition of Natura Pet Products by Procter & Gamble was finalized on June 1st. I am delighted to continue as President and Chief Operating Officer for Natura Pet Products, and my management team remains in place. I’m excited about continuing to serve Natura’s customers and their pets with the high-quality, natural nutrition you’ve come to expect.

I have heard much speculation about our brands and wanted you to hear directly from me. Be assured that our commitment to quality has never been stronger and we will continue to offer world class products for your pets. Specifically: Natura’s nutritional philosophy will not change; we know that the foundation of our success is rooted in our products and their performance. Our approach to formulation and product design will remain the same, and we will continue to position our formulas on the cutting edge as we evolve and improve our market leading products. Importantly, all Natura dry products will continue to be produced in Natura’s plant in Fremont, and our ingredient selection philosophy is unchanged. We will not compromise our standards.

Additionally, our commitment to your local Independent Pet Store continues to be our top priority. We are committed to distributing the Natura brands only within the Pet Specialty channel. This is where the natural pet food-seeking pet parent shops, and where we can provide cutting edge products and nutritional consultation to ensure you get the best products for your pet.

Lastly, we remain committed to Natura’s heritage of product innovation. We’ve just launched California Natural Grain-Free, and if you’re looking for a no-grain product with limited ingredients, try this one. California Natural Grain Free carries all of the hallmarks of the Natura brands – quality, careful ingredient selection, produced in our plant in Fremont – with the added benefits of grain-free formulas for those sensitive pets.

As always, please contact our Product Advisors with any questions or concerns at 1-800-532-7261. Thank you for your belief in Natura Pet Products. The future is bright for our brands, and we look forward to serving you and your pets for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Don Scott

What scares me most is that they can make a lot of changes to the foods that won't require any changes on the label. Additionally, the letter says that their dry food will be made in their Freemont plant. What about the wet?

Are you sticking with them? I'm in the process of transitioning back to Blue Buffalo until I figure out my next step. Definitely let us know what you find out from them about the wet. Their letter leaves way too many holes for me to feel comfortable.

P&G taking over Natura may or may not be a good thing depending on how you feel about P&G. P&G and other big corporations see a growing market and lots of $$$$ to be made selling specialty pet foods and want in on it!

He says P&G will continue to make the food in the Natura plant. They will continue Natura's philosophy when selecting the ingredients for the foods and in product formulation. They will continue to make the food to please consumers who buy their pet food in specialty stores. They seem to know their market very well because he says they've just introduced a grain-free product.

What he doesn't say is that Natura food formulas will not change or never change. But then, what pet food company can or does make that claim?

I hear yew & Meows wiff ya!

It seems that it's always about the Money $$$$$ red face

I will keep buying Wellness Pet foods as I continually read the labels.
I was assured that the Co rep that I spoke with last year said that Bearwind Co. bought out Wellness, & they would not make any changes that would jeopardize our Pet's health in regards to the nutrition & commitment to keeping it top quality & healthy, & safe.
So far, I haven't seen or heard any complaints as of yet!

Now, getting to Nutro, OMC! shock when will this all end shrug the continuing worrisome of our pets foods & keeping them as healthily as possible I'm getting so dizzy & maddddddd.... I'm one to fight back! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Thanks Madison & Kaci Sunshine lubbs ya,

Hello Hazel Lucy wave

Looks like we may haff tew go bak to feeding our kitties gud old - fashion home cooked meals, butts that does take upps a lot of time & they must get all their nutrional values to keep healthy!

I remember in the old days like bak in the 50's & 60's we fed our cats table scraps & it was good wholesome meats, our cats were never sick, if anything a lot of cats in those days were outside cats. We would hear about our neighbors cats getting hit by a car if anything.

I know my family always had pets & they were all well - cared for.

Sad frown to say we are living in a whole new era.

Thanks Chef Hazel Lucy

Kally Kat wave

There's no reason we can't cook meals for our cats. There's no reason cats can't eat "people" food. Making meals for our cats takes more time than opening a can or bag but making it isn't rocket science either! There are good books available that tell you how to do it and what supplements cats need. The real difficulty can be getting your cat to eat your home cooked food! laugh out loud

Pet food companies want you believing that it's dangerous and requires arcane knowledge about supplementation but that's not really true but where's the scientific evidence that says it's true?

As for whether cats were healthier and lived longer 50-100 years ago eating left overs from the dinner table along with whatever prey they could catch or whether they're healthier and live longer nowadays eating nothing but pet foods isn't known. If you can find any studies, scientific or otherwise, from the last 100 years, please let me know because I'd love to see that info! big grin

Hi- This thread has caught my attention and thought that I could give a little insight (even though I have to see through 2 tubby cats!!). I have worked for Natura for the last 1 ½ years and I can understand your apprehension towards the merger of P&G and Natura Pet Products. One of the reasons why P&G was interested in Natura is because they know of the high nutritional standards we are committed to and we have industry wide respect for our manufacturing practices. They are committed to helping us product high quality cat and dog foods. The people that our making our foods today are the same people who were producing it on May 5th.

I truly believe that John & Ann would not have sold to P&G if they did not believe that they would continue our nutritional philosophy. I feel that P&G is interested in Natura because of the respect we have from consumers like you (who want to feed healthy foods to your pets!).

Natura will continue to apply our quality management programs to the production of our canned food products no matter which facility is utilized. Natura will continue to be involved in ingredient supplier selection and management, we will have 100% control over the premixes used in our canned foods, and we will still sign-off on all finished product quality.

I hope this clears up some of your worries, if you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Ember, LVT
