I an't see why it could be bad? Mum feeds it to us every once in a while. But with all this talk about raw diets and such, would it be a good idea to feed it more often? - we eat dry regularly as well.

There's two things with eating a predominately seafood diet, 1) it can contain high levels of mercury (and salt) and 2) has a lot of phosphorus which can cause a UTI. Feeding canned tuna in small amounts every once in a while should not cause problems. A better alternative is Mackerel.... it's best to find it packed in water with as less salt as you can find. Have you tried canned food?? You can find high quality canned foods that have almost all meat like Innova EVO. It is closer to eating a raw diet than dry food. way to go

It's ok to do once and a while but not too often.

Besides what rasha said, one thing you have to remember (and those kitties who eat home made diets work very hard to take care of this part) is that canned tuna has no organ meat, no bones, and is only one type of protien - those varieties of meats are important for our nutrition.

But as a treat or reward, or "special part of our diet" it's fine. smile

On top of the macarel, I've heard salmon is good, too.

Also, any time you go fishing, give your kitties the heads! lots of good nutrition there.

Mmmm . . . me want fish heads!

We go crazy for the canned mackeral. Mom says it is gross but she doesn't know what's good!

We get canned tuna a couple times a month with some extra water added. It is like gourmet kitty soup! Make sure you get tuna packed in water, not oil.

Thanks guys for the response.

Like I said I give this as a snack one in a while, say 1x a month - if that...I am NOT feeding them an all canned tuna diet, nor do I plan to! They eat wellness dry now and am trying to make them eat the wet. So we are eating fine, all we wondered was if this was okay as a snack more often than we were getting.

Thanks again
