Now How to Calm Me.

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

I have a new roommate moving in. If I wasn't nervous enough, I see that she has a unsecured hutch on top of her dresser. This hutch is very heavy. If my cats were to get into her room, and jump on top of it wouldn't take much to knock it over. I think even if it were secured it could be knocked over. I have thougght about offering her back her first month's prorated rent in exchange for her NOT using it. I have already had one cat die due to freak circumstances. I can't bear another. If anything were to happen to my Toni girl I'd just die. I can't stop thinking about the waht ifs. It is driving me insane just thinking about not being here, and that thing falling on my Tonigirl or Hershey. Do you think I am being overreactive? If I had a child, people would undestand, but since tehy are "Just cats" nobody does...

My cats are into everything.... My hershey jumps from the kichen counter to the top of teh kitchen cabinents. IF HE can do that I know he will jump on this hutch.....I wish I had know about the hutch before she was moving in, or I would have handled it before hand. As it I sound a like a crazy catlady with all my reminders to not leave out plastic bags, dont leave the dryer unattended, check the dryer before closing it etc.... I can't afford to lose this roommate...

You need to sit this person down & have a calm conversation, expressing your concerns. If you get a "so what?" reaction, then this will probably not be a good fit for you. It means that this person will not be looking out for them. An animal lover will understand your concern. Honestly if you cannot come to a good resolution on this, it will cause so much tension (your cats will pick up on that) and life will not be so enjoyable. However, don't "wait & see" TALK NOW. Good luck.hug

If she has her own room, could it be as simple as asking her to keep her door closed?
