Cat mammary tumors

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Tell me everything you know.

I found a good sized lump on Natasha's breast today and I've been doing research overkill until I can call the vet tomorrow and make the appointment as soon as possible.

I'm worried sick with all of the information I am finding. Mammary tumors are malignant 80% of the time? Prognosis is poor? They have to remove all of the teats on one side to prevent it from spreading? This is morbid and horribly sad!

My Natasha... she can't go... she can't leave...

Of course, I haven't gotten an official diagnosis yet but I am just worried sick and am thinking the absolute worst. I have never had this strong of a bond with a creature. I love her so much. I can't lose her.

Help me. cry

I just had another thought.
What about a benign tumor under her spay scar?

Because I remember that before taking her home from the pound we had to take her to the vet to get her spayed (of course, pound policy), so they made us take her to this really bad veterinarian (not our usual one) who did a really cruddy job (he put her under right in front of us and literally threw her in a cage)... so I can't imagine what went on during the actual surgery... he could have had his incision way off.

Just another possibility.

Scar tissue can form along/under any incision.
Purring for a good report.
Paws crossed,

Hi, Pretty Girl Natasha:

I had to leave my mum and cross the bridge last October due to a mammary lump. I was diagnosed at the beginning of the year, under went surgery to have the tumour removed but, unfortunately, it came back. I will keep my paws crossed for you. I was already at risk for cancer as I was a rescue who was spayed late in life (I was already 6 when I was spayed) and the vet said that that was probably what caused it. I hope you will be OK and please get to the vet ASAP.

Lots of purrs for you!!hug

I forgot to ask but is there any liquid coming from the lump and does it feel irregular in shape?
