How to safely get rid of ants???

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

I am sorry to say that due to the recent wet weather our kitchen has been invaded by teeny tiny ants..Mom will not use any commercial product on them because she does not want me to get sick..she knows that cinnamon is safe for me but it does not seem to be working..Anyone else have any other NATURAL safe remedies for ants...Mom is going to super clean the entire kitchen in clorox tomorrw and hopefully get rid of them...

There is a supper safe product I have been using . I do not remember the name. sry but it is a small round bate station the is completely contained and they take food to the whole colony and and it kills everything. I have also used the liquid bate stations. Those are a sticky mess. Due to the fact that I also have a Lab who picks up everything that is not nailed down.. The small round bait stations work the best for me and all of my animals. They are what ever is out at the stores. I am wanting to say Raid but am not for sure. I was wondering how u were doing with the cinnamon. Tks for letting us know.Yes it is the Raid, white bait stations. They work great for sugar and grease ants. Those little black and brown ones... Now as for all the pre-cautions from the FDA.. they are required by law to put them on there. I have never had any problems using these at all. I have 2 ferrets that run on the floor at times and they have found one and brought it out. Also 3 cats 3 dogs, 5 birds and some small animals. I will only recommend things that I have used myself.
Here in Florida, with all the pests and all of my animals.. I have to be very cautious. I do not spray anything here because of the birds and my helth.
Good luck and please let us know what you decide. =^^=

Sorry to be so long getting back to you..Thanks Sootball...mom checked that out as well as several other products and had posed the question several other places and did lots of research and finally ended up with Terro liquid ant bait..Its main ingredient is boric acid..It seemed to do the job since the ants have disappeared...The hardest part was not klilling them after they ate the bait and letting them go back to their colony..It took about 3 days...

I'm glad you found a solution for your ants problem. I just wanted to add that usually you can save yourself a lot of grief by figuring out where they are coming from and erasing the scent to your counters by spraying their trail with vinegar. Do this for several days, and the ants give up because they can no longer tell where their trail is.

Meowma puts boric acid around the crack under the door and so forth--it keeps them out and is safe.

I've been told to sprinkle cinnamon around the perimeter! Seems to work so far.

I strongly recommend "The Antser." It's like a raised place mat for food dishes. There is a reservoir inside that you fill with water and a couple of drops of dishwashing soap. The ants cannot cross the water and so they can't get into the food. It doesn't get rid of your ant problems, but it will keep them out of the cat food, and it's completely safe.

This is Delyte. Our person invented our own kind of ant repellent for our food. She puts the bowls in shallow pie pans and fills the pie pans with water. What would be even better would be something to hold the dish in the center of the pie pan, since when we have eaten some of the food it is easy to move the dish to the edge. Also we all drag food out and put it in the water, which causes a mess and attracts more ants. We have also heard that rubbing vaseline on the outside of the dish keeps the ants from coming up the dish. But we might lick that off. We seem to have had the amount of ants fall off lately, due to the wet weather outside.

We have terrible ants too and Daisy is right about the Antster. It really keeps ants out of our bowls and the trash cans. A great product!
