Velcro
Fix one save- 1,000 please- spay/neuter! |
| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 2:55pm PST | | | | | | Well, it's pretty much a garuntee that Velcro is pregnant. Some idiot in my house let her out of the kennel AND out of the house. And of course she's in heat. Well, we found my brother's INTACT MALE cat running loose around our property and the neighbor's (they brought him over and asked if he belonged to my brother). And the response I got from my brother's alcoholic girlfriend is "Oh well it doesn't matter that he got out, we're moving anyway"; I about blew a gasket, she knows that Velcro is intact, and she KNOWS that there's a hole in the window out there, and common sense would dictate that if there's a hole in the window of one room, you close the door to that one room so your intact animal doesn't get in there.
I don't know what I'm going to do if she gets pregnant. No vet will spay here because of her herpes (and she still has the respiritory problems despite the lysine and antibiotics; she keeps sneezing still), my car is broken down, and even though my income has improved, I still can't afford an entire litter of (most likely herpes-ridden) kittens...and my landlord wouldn't allow it either. And I know if she is pregnant (most likely from his cat), my brother and his girlfriend are not going to do absolutely anything about it, and since my brother is the favorite, my mother more than likely make me take the cats to the pound where they would be put to death. It would also take a big toll on Velcro's immune system I'm sure.
In other words, I need EVERYONE to pray, meditate, cross your fingers, do everything in hopes that she does not get pregnant. I at least try my darndest to keep her inside, my brother's uncaring girlfriend purposely lets the cat roam whereever he pleases and when I asked her if the cat was in the room with her (all she has to do is glance around the room) she just said "Uhm I dunno."Edited by author Tue Aug 19, '08 3:05pm PST

| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 7:00pm PST | | | | | | Update -- about half an hour after I posted this I went into my room for a minute to reschedule an appointment and I heard her collar jingle and I saw her sitting on the table. I don't know if she was outside or not now, but I looked all over the house in all the rooms and bathrooms, under things and still didn't see her...hopefully she was in the house all along and I just missed seeing her hiding out her because I was in a panic. | | | | |

| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 10:07pm PST | | | | | | I dont think your calling the right vets. Ive gotten several cats done with herpies,so i would do your best to get her fixed ASAP or else your going to bring a bunch of unwanted kitten who are sick. and its very expensive to care for them. weather it was your fault or not its up to you to fix this problem. If you cant, maybe you should consider giving velcro to rescue. im not trying to be mean here, so dont get upset. but you have to think whats best for her. Kittens will be a terrible strain on her and the kittens will for sure get sick. and if you are having trouble just getting one sick cat fixed then a litter of them is oging to be much worse. please call more vets. | | | | |

| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 10:41pm PST | | | | | | I am trying really, really hard to empathize with your situation here, but I honestly just do not understand. Why are there people in your household that do not mind your rules? And how is it that you have renters when you have a landlord yourself? I am so confused as to your situation. Regardless of any of that... you need to find a vet that will fix her NOW. There is no way that there isn't anyone anywhere that will help you. And as for all these strange people around you GET RID OF THEM! If they don't own the property, why are they there? I'm sorry, but this almost seems like a made up situation since it just keeps going on and on and on with absolutely no resolution. FIX THIS and FIX IT NOW! | | | | |

| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 11:31pm PST | | | | | | I've been following your saga from the beginning, and it seems that Velcro is nothing but a source of stress for you. Do you really love and need her? More to the point, would spaying solve the entire problem? Cats can sense when their owners are stressed out, and that in turn causes the cats to feel stressed. It is not uncommon in such a situation for the owner to be advised to rehome the cat, whatever it takes. Velcro's mental health is not only at stake here, but also her physical health--she's having litter after litter even though she's sick, and the kittens themselves are likely to be infected, which means that it will be difficult to find them good homes. This story seems to keep going around in circles. If you are desperate to keep Velcro, find another vet, consult a shelter, consult the SPCA, whatever. Otherwise, surrender her to people who are more knowledgeable than you seem to be about what to do in this situation. I do not intend to be mean or flippant here; Velcro is driving you crazy, and it seems like the only solution is to do something you haven't tried before, which may mean rehoming her. All I feel is anger emanating from each of your posts, and I think Velcro would appreciate being spared being having to be the object of so much emotional conflict. | | | | |

| Purred: Tue Aug 19, '08 11:50pm PST | | | | | | I am afraid I am going to have to agree with Leila, Velcro. You seem to keep running around in circles with no resolution in site...You are obviously stressed by the situtation, and I can't help but wonder if Velcro is equally as stressed... | | | | |

| Purred: Wed Aug 20, '08 6:03am PST | | | | | | I have to agree... I can sympathize, you love Velcro and want to do what is right for her. But if there is a risk she is pregnant I only see two choices, get her spayed now, or surrender her (or re-home here) to an organization (or person) that will spay her.
When you call vets, who are you talking to? Ask to talk to a Vet, not a receptionist. Receptionists often deal with "normal" situations, and often aren't equipped to make exceptions. We spay and neuter animals with upper respiratory infections at our shelter with no difficulty. If Velcro IS pregnant, and you allow this pregnancy to get further I can only foresee more complications and difficulty with spaying.
A pregnant cat, especially one with compromised health, and a condition that will be passed to offspring is not anything to take lightly. In my opinion the only humane choice is to spay her ASAP at whatever cost.
If there is one thing I have learned working in sheltering/animal rescue it is that a stressed, burned out, caregiver is not a good thing. You are in a bad situation with your family/renting/housing, and I don't know how old you are, and if moving to your own place is an option, but I think you need to do something to help care for yourself before you can care for others with less stress.Edited by author Wed Aug 20, '08 6:08am PST

I'm the baby,- gotta love me! |
| Purred: Wed Aug 20, '08 6:09am PST | | | | | | You need to call rescues in your area. If nothing else, even if they can't take her in, they will be able to suggest someone who will spay her as soon as possible. I'm also starting to agree with Spot and company: living in an household where the stress is at this constant level won't do anything to get her healthy to be spayed any time soon.
Find someone, anyone in your area who is willing to give her peace and quiet for a while. Here is a list of rescues in your area. It sounds like you're just not in the mental head space to deal with a cat with her problems right now, and there is nothing wrong with admitting that, and doing something about it. I understand you might have become attached to Velcro, but if you love her while not being able to provide her a stable environment for her, you are not doing her much of a favor.

| Purred: Wed Aug 20, '08 6:31am PST | | | | | | I agree with everyone above; Velcro NEEDS to be spayed, and therereally is NO excuse at this point!! If you can't take proper care of her, then it's your responsibility to find someone who can. I don't mean to be harsh, but the issues Velcro is experiencing are simple and easily solved with very MINOR effort. You NEED to follow through, or you owe it to this little kitty to find her a home with people who will.
We've never heard of a vet who wouldn't spay because of herpes virus. She's old and big enough now to be able to hold up to a routine surgery pretty much regardless - think of it this way: if she was seriously hurt, would they not operate because she's sneezing???? Sounds ridiculous, because it is!
If you need help finding a rescue organization for her, send us a message.
