Otherwise, threaten eviction and mean it. If you don't, it sounds like the "neighbors" are stressing you out, and so you might want to consider moving. Honestly, neither of my parents would put up with half the crap it sounds like you have to put up, no wonder your kitty is stressed, she is picking up on your stress.

I read your history and finally realize that the Herpes your talking about is rhinotracheitis (correct spelling I looked it up). I really don't understand why your vet won't spay her especially since she is in heat.
Rhino is worse when the cat is in a stressfull situation. A cat in Heat is one of the most stressfull situations. I really think that you should find another vet who will do the spay for here. If you can't afford the surgery offer to work it off.
Unless it will kill her to have the surgery (I don't think it will they could always put a tube down her and that way bypass the possiblity of congestion causing respriatory failure while on the table.) She MUST have it. She will get significantly better after the surgery.
My family had a cat in the late '80s early '90s who had Rhino really bad it was so bad that it never went away. He would sit in the sun or on the dryer with his head pressed against the dryer while it was running and it would drain his sineses. My sister worked of an experimental surgery for him where the local vet university tried to scrape clean his sineses. Even this did not work. But NEVER once were necessary proceedures refused for him from out vets (my mom's bosses) they neutered him they treated his cherry eye and made sure that he was always well taken care of.
Your vet sounds weird that he won't do the spay. Please trie to find another one.
With regards to the humans - if you have authority KICK THEM OUT especially if they are not paying rent. I don't care if they are family. The fact that they are not respecting your property or another live means that they have to GO.
They have no right to put you and velcro in any danger.
We hope things start to look up for you soon.
Lots of love and goog thoughts

Is it possible to get the money back from the Humane Society? You've paid for a service that they haven't provided, so I can't see why they should be able to keep it. You could then put that money towards a spay at another clinic?
We hope things improve with the extra people.

Fix one save- 1,000 please- spay/neuter! |
| Purred: Thu Jul 17, '08 10:04pm PST | | | | | | Unfortunately, they said that if I don't have her spayed with them, they're keeping it as a donation; I normally wouldn't care but it's not my money, and I DO donate money, toys, food, and collars/leashes there when I can since I have my hands full with the furry and feathered "sons/daughters" I have now and can't volunteer at the moment. I'm going to talk to her regular vet and see if they'll do an urgent spay, and pay my friend the money back via a money order when I can get her new contact information. The vets at the humane society keep insisting that it could kill her because fluid could fill in her lungs during surgery . | | | | |

| Purred: Fri Jul 18, '08 7:41am PST | | | | | | Hi Velcro,
Where as what the SPCA told you about the liquid is true (I've watched many spay and neuters - my mom worked at a vets office when I was a kid, those are the perks of that situation). There are ways of monitoring that and ways of dealing with it in the operating room. Her regular vet may charge you more due to the higher complications possible and the probability of needing an extra set of hands and eyes during the operation, but I'm sure that a competant and compasionate vet will be willing to help out.
Keep us updated Oh and have you kicked those horrible humans out??

| Purred: Fri Jul 18, '08 8:38am PST | | | | | | Winnie and Chester have a good idea there, Velcro. We have seen the Catster Railroad perform some wonderful relocations. They work so hard to make sure kitties get where they need to go. Check out their forums. They really care and work so hard.
We are purring for you. | | | | |

| Purred: Fri Jul 18, '08 12:58pm PST | | | | | | The thing is, I have Feline Herpes. We found that out when I came home with a URI. I am fine now. Most kittens who do get herpes do have maturing immune systems that learn to keep it under control. So Velcro having a litter? Not a death sentence for the babies. I just wanted to point that out, for the record.
As for the financials, that is a good enough reason not to want a litter. You want your money to go towards caring the one cat you do have already. That's perfectly understandable, do not make anyone make you feel bad about that.

| Purred: Fri Jul 18, '08 2:28pm PST | | | | | | I'm more worried about the health of her, the health of possible kittens, and the cat overpopulation in this county; there are literally at least 30 cats at any given time in our local shelter, and that does NOT include cats being fostered for the shelter, and cats in the other rescued group around here called 'rescued paws' who also sometimes fosters for the humane society and cats are euthanized every day there, I just cannot add to that.
Velcro has a vet appointment on July 24 this month so we're going to see if she can handle a spay and if her regular vet is willing to have it done. The spay is going to cost about $187 if she's pregnant or in heat, or $164 if she's not. The humane society is being very stubborn and won't do it, so this may be the best or only option.
