I don't know what to do anymore, give her away for FREE, euthanize her, emergency spay her?

Sometimes I hate people, I mean genuinely truly hate people. The losers that live out in our garage just let Velcro out KNOWING that she was in heat, and just said "oops" and didn't even TELL me she was out! I looked everywhere and I can't find her, I can't even hear her yowling. So I finally called the stupid vets at the humane society telling them this was an emergency and that if I couldn't have her fixed I would either have to dump her and her kittens off at their shelter or would have to euthanize her, they just said "Oh. Well, there's nothing we can do about that." Even though THEY'RE the ones who were payed to fix her! I've been trying for months trying to get her a foster or permanant home, noone wants a cat with herpes that isn't spayed. And the rescue down here won't take owner-surrenders. I've exhausted all of my options, I can't find anyone, and I can't afford to drive more than 2 hours away to get her a home.

I just...I don't know what to do anymore, I have so many things on my plate right now, I'm not psychologically stable anymore, and now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with my furbaby. I've never been good about making life-and-death decisions---just a couple years ago I had to have an elderly cat put down---,who am I, just some nobody, to decide who lives and who dies? And it's not like she's completely unhealthy either, she just has herpes, so it makes me feel even more like a freaking monster.

Hi Velcro,

Sorry to hear about the hard time your having.

I'm not sure I understand totally the herpes situation. Are you talking herpes like the rhinotricheitus (I think that's how it's spelled) kind? Or is it something more serious like the human STD kind?
I don't understand why the vet won't take care of her have you tried to find a new vet? I would imagine that a vet might keep her in quarentine untill she is fit to have the spay. It would be a good Idea maybe to get one of those cages for her to keep her in for now (if you can find her).

I would hate it if she got pregnate especially if it could harm her health further.

Tobad they don't make female cat condums. big laugh

I really don't have any good advice for you sorry cry but I hope everything turns out well for yousmile

OH and I sometimes hate humans too - THEY CAN REALLY SUCK shh

You mentioned a while back that there was this lady named Laurie (I'm thinking it was a rescue you were working with) that helped you out lots. Can you ask her if she can keep Velcro for a while, while you sort through your other problems?

You know what, the vets there sound unreasonable. Even if the spay is pre-paid. I would widen my net of rescues to something that is not immediately in your area, but who you can still call up and ask for help.

I am confused too....you mentioned that you paid for the spaying? Our shelter does not let any animals go until they are fixed. Did you kitty slip through the system? Were they booked? It seems you should be able to make an appointment in the near future with most clinics. ***I just reread what you wrote and I am now reading in-between the lines - Are you a Foster Home and that is why you have her unfixed from the Humane Society and she snuck out before she could get fixed? *** new edit, I decided to go to your page and understand way more now. Wow, poor baby has been sick. I hate to say this but when you find her and I am sure you will...they sometimes abort the pregnancy. I know sad and bad but sometimes choices have to be made. frown

Hopefully you find her....leave food out for her, maybe she will smell it. Cats are smart, she will find her way home, even if she is indoors. They have a keen smell and just know where they live for some reason.

Do you have anyone that can "foster" for a bit? I had to do that with Chloe for about 6 months. Worse time of our lives, we were both miserable and had a happy reunion but it all worked out.

Good luck.....

OH don't do anything drastic - stop - breathe and keep looking for her.

If she is out and gets pregnant she will pass the herpe virus on and then you have double or triple trouble.

I'm so sorry - wish we could help. Sometimes things seem impossible - but just find her if you can.hughughug

Hi Velcro's Mom!

I have herpes, too. Lucky for me, mine is relatively under control. I still have a bit of eye irritation now and then (minor discharge mostly), but I haven't had any respiratory symptoms since I finished my round of Clavamox at 9 weeks old. However, my meowmy was beside herself when I first showed signs of sickness, too. She had herself thinking it would take me MONTHS to recover, and lo and behold I was back to my playful orange self in less than a week. Meowmy still gives me Lysine paste (I love the way it tastes!) when I show signs of flares. She and my vet are convinced the Lysine helps keep my eyes shiney and clear. And so far, my sister has shown no signs of having herpes herself.

As for the potential litter - when Velcro comes home (and I believe she will. Kitties are marvelous locators!) - bring her to a different vet. Unfortunately even the most kind-hearted professionals don't always make the right decisions. If she is pregnant, they can do an emergency spaying/termination of pregnancy. It's not pleasant, but it's much MUCH better than euthanizing her.

I'm sorry you're having personal difficulties. After reading your page it seems like financial stress is taking its toll. It's not an easy time right now for many Meowmies and Catdaddies - so know you're not alone. If at all possible, try googling local no-kill shelters in your area, or check out Petfinder and contact the local rescue organizations. They are also EXCELLENT references for vets - and they often get a discount that maybe you could make use of. My meowmy adopted my sister and me from a local no-kill rescue organization and the lady that runs it has been an excellent resource to us during our kitten days.

Good luck, and please let us know when Velcro comes home. We'll keep you and Velcro in our thoughts.

Well, she's off...AGAIN, even locking the doors didn't keep the loser from crawling in through our freaking windows to let my cat out of the bathroom (the one safe place for her where she won't hurt herself, because she does in her kennel and when she's in my room she hurts herself trying to get out the closed window, and on top of that has now decided that my pillow and bed is a prime spot to urinate upon).

Thank you all for the advice, I'm just so stressed and frustrated right now with a couple of people--Velcro's original owners for one who didn't spay her or even microchip her in the first place, and the...thing...that lives here with a relative who keeps letting her out, she doesn't even pay rent here which makes it even more aggrivating--that I can't even think straight. I'm trying desperately to find a foster, but I can't find one anywhere, literally; I've tried multiple rescue forums, petfinder classified ads, the local newspaper forum and classifieds, a local rescue group who is packed right now so I don't think they could take her, Craigslist, and I've also tried two "Freecylce" places (Longview and Vancouver Freecycle) . This whole county is so overpopulated with cats that people have a hard time giving KITTENS away for FREE, so finding even a foster for a sick adult unspayed female cat is pretty much impossible.

She can't stay with my friend Lory because she lives in New Mexico, way far away from where I live and neither of us could afford to ship Velcro there, she also has other kitties there and we don't want to get them sick. My fiance also really wants to take her, but he and his father have two full litters of kittens because they have a feral cat that they can't catch let alone get fixed that keeps popping litters on their property, she has another one on the way too. Also, one of the cats from the older litter cannot be neutered because he has heart murmur. So there's no way that she could be harbored there safely.

At this rate, I'm almost thinking euthanasia may be more humane than risking her getting pregnant. I don't have the money for an emergency spay/abortion, and the humane society will do absolutely nothing. I hate to say things like that I really do, but I have tried litterally EVERYTHING, and nothing I do is ever good enough for this cat. Something always goes wrong, no matter how hard I try, how many precautions I take, how much money or time is put into her. I'm borderlining insanity here, I already have psychological disorders and am having mental breakdowns, I can't take any more add ons, literally, or I'm going to end up at the hospital again.

Why do they keep letting her out? Are they a child and do not know any better? Do they understand why you want her in? have a real long harsh talk with them to stop behaving in this manner and to leave your cat alone and inside!
