Is there a particular brand of food I should feed my cat who may have allergies?

Well, it depends on what you are allergic to. If you have a chicken allergy, you should look for a different protein source. Nature's Variety Instinct has a Rabbit formula. There's also Natural Balance, they have allergy formulas. Once you know for sure what you are allergic to, then you will be able to choose the food that is right for you. wink

best foods for allergies are NATURAL foods and its best to NOT trust these big name companies who swear that their food is good for allergies as you can find out its not by looking at the 101 ingredients on the back.

remember that us cats in the wild hundreds of years back lived on meat products with the occasional veg such as grass and so on.

And if you are allergic to a certain food then you must avoid it at all costs.

all the best

Hello,
I'm going through this right now. I am on Royal Canin IVD/Rabbit and Green Pea formula but I won't know for several weeks if this is helping me. If it does not, as Jordan mentions, the next step is to try a home cooked diet. It will take a lot of work to be sure that it is well balanced but it might become necessary.

Hi Miss JoJo- Louise,

Like others said, it really depends on what you're allergic to and that can sometimes be difficult to determine, but you might have to try eliminating certain foods that are known to cause allergies first.

Some of the known allergens in foods are corn, wheat and soy. Also some cats are allergic to beef and fish, and sometimes, but rarely, chicken.

This is one food I know of that is supposed to be good for cats with allergies. It comes in dry as well as canned.
N atural Balance

Good Luck, I hope you find something that works for you!

Thanks everybody! JoJo's ears are doing very well. I give her Prednisone and her ear drops daily. Plus I clean out her ears every 3 days or so. I cleaned them yesterday and the q-tip was clean! It was a miracle!

I will talk to the vet in a couple of weeks about some of the food mentioned here.

Thanks again!

JoJo's ears are much better. I still have to clean them 2-3 times per week. The vet sold me Prescription Diet D/D. After I bought it, I thought...why did I buy this?

So then I went to the pet food store and bought Dick Van Pattens (I thought he was an actor) Natural Balance Limited Ingredient canned & kibble food.

Any comments you'd like to share about this? Do you think this was a good idea? I appreciate everybody's past advice. Thank you.

That's what I eat. I LOVE that food. It is not Mommy's first choice but I HATE chicken so it is her best choice. The wet version has fish in it and that is what I am allergic to. I eat Merrick's for wet as a treat sometimes and love it too.
