Hyperactive cat... anyone else have one?

This is a place to gain some understanding of cat behavior and to assist people in training their cats and dealing with common behavior problems, regardless of the method(s) used. Keep in mind that you may be receiving advice from other cat owners and lovers...not professionals. If you have a major problem, always seek the advice of a trainer or behaviorist!

Caspurr seems to be ADHD - he can not focus on anything at a given moment...he is hyperactive (which keeps him slim - despite the fact that he has a HUGE appetite)
He is also claustrophobic and does not tolerate being kenneled at all. His one focus is catnip, which seems to make him more hyperactive.
Anything to help this cat calm down?

Has Caspurr always been this hyperactive?

Many cats develop hyperthyroidism when they're Caspurr's age. Some of the symptoms are hyperactivity, a huge appetite and not gaining weight or weight loss. It's a serious disease but easy to control with medication. You should have your vet check him for hyperthyroidism as soon as possible.

If he doesn't have hyperT (and hopefully he doesn't), then enjoy his antics! Give him lots of toys and find interactive toys he enjoys and play with him often to tire him out. MOL!
