My caretaker is a bit slow on the uptake and has only just discovered this site - even though she's been saying "wouldn't it be great if the cats had a blog" for ages.
So finally - here I am!
I'm Aurora, I used to be called Lucky but both my caretakers are huge Foo Fighters' fans so both me and my little brother Johnny Park are named after Foo songs. Not that we ever get called by our proper names - I'm always called Roo or Roobert and he is called Park or JP or even worse Jpeg. Honestly, humans.....
I can't really remember much about before I came to live here. I'm 18 months old now and have been here 8 months. I know I moved around a lot before that and I wasn't very happy and I was very underweight, but luckily Andy and Rachel decided to share their house with me and I'm very happy here. Well most of the time. Last November they decided I needed a friend (I didn't) and along came a stupid boy kitten. He's alright I suppose but he's very annoying and I have to keep him in line a lot of the time - hopefully he'll calm down as he gets older; he's only 6 months old right now.
I don't go outside very much. The vets say I'm at least 50% if not more BSH and we make much better indoor cats. Plus I'm very clumsy for a cat and get stuck up on fences and stuff so it's better that I'm indoors. It's fine by me as I have lots of toys and a cat gym to play on. Rachel opens the windows a little for me too so I can hear the birds and get some fresh air. Sometimes the cat from next door thinks she can come into my garden - but I soon see her off!

I'm going to the vet this afternoon, apparently. Of course nobody ever runs these appointments past me to see if it's OK - they just make them willy nilly, assuming I have nothing better to do. There's a magpie on the back fence that I need to watch over, but of course I'm going to have to get in my basket and go to the vet :(
I don't mind the vet really. He's always really nice to me. Back in January I had to go a lot as I got an impacted hairball stuck in my intestine and in the end I had to have an operation to remove it. I hadn't realised how ill I'd been feeling until after the op - now I'm back to my old self and full of mischief, although the fur still hasn't grown back on my tummy properly which is rather embarassing.
Today's trip to the vet isn't for anything so serious luckily. I'm just going to have my claws clipped. I'm not very good at scratching or maintaining them myself and Rachel really isn't very good at it doing them for me and we both end up having a big fight so these days the vet does it. It's much less traumatic that way!
Not sure what I'm up to this evening - I'm hoping for a play later, although my little brother has broken most of my toys. He's so destructive. I think Rachel is going to buy me some more though.....

Sundays are a strange day in this house. Our caretakers seem to want to stay in bed in the mornings. It's most disconcerting and I don't understand why they don't get up at breakfast time like they do on all the other days. When I first came to stay here it used to upset me and I ended up sulking under the bed all day. These days I play them at their own game.
First I send JP, my little brother in. He jumps on them and licks their faces. Then I call and call and call at them from the bottom of the stairs. Rachel will usually come down and feed us at this point. If she goes back to bed though I've discovered a back up plan.
I carry my furry ball upstairs and make buzzing noises at them, he he he!! This morning Rachel told me I wasn't a dog, which I am obviously aware of, but if gets her out of bed......

I've really started to enjoy my food recently. I've always been a bit of grazer - I eat dry food mostly and I like it to be left out so I can have a little nibble whenever I pass my bowl. However, this isn't so easy since my little brother came to live here as he eats anything in sight and really shouldn't.
The thing is I never really liked food very much. I really enjoyed my kitten food but since coming off that I never found very much I liked. It might have been because of my hairball problem though, who knows.
Anyway, since the hairball issue I have been having Hill Science Hairball Control Food which is delicious!! I can eat whole bowls in one sitting, nom nom nom...
Unfortunately Rachel doesn't leave our food out between meals much anymore.
I guess she's right though, I don't want to overeat. My bum is fat enough....

Hello everyone!
Yesterday Andy brought home a remote controlled helicopter. It makes a buzzing noise and flies around the room and has a flashing light. I don't understand how it works at all. It flies around as if it is alive but it doesn't smell of anything and the noise it makes scares me a bit. My little brother, JP, loves it though and chases it all around the house. I prefer to watch from behind the door. I'd like some quieter toys really - I'm hoping Rachel buys me some more feather ticklers soon as they are my favourite but JP keeps tearing them all apart. I imagine it's only a matter of time before he tears the helicopter apart.
Anyway, I have something new to keep me amused - the kitchen sink! Yes, I know, I can't believe I hadn't discovered it before. I love to watch the water coming out of the tap, I like to bat the water and drink from the tap. I will happily sit for hours and hours by the sink until somebody comes along to turn the tap on. I only wish I had opposable thumbs, then I could turn the tap on myself.
I don't think Rachel is best pleased as I keep shaking out my wet fur all over the kitchen (she likened me to a dog again...humph), and leaving damp pawprints everywhere.
If you'd like to see my new game I've posted a video of myself - aren't I awesome!!?? :D

Well I had quite an experience the other night - I got locked in the office all night long!
Before they go to bed at night Rachel and Andy shut up the office so we can't get in there and chew all the computer wires during the night. On Thursday night though Rachel had forgotten to put her phone on to charge and had to go back in there to plug it in. She saw that JP had run in after her and was chewing on all the wires - and she spent ages trying to get him out - what she didn't see was that I had snuck in as well!
The next thing I new the door had been shut and everyone had gone to bed. I'm usually so quiet at night and sleep on the bedroom floor without any fuss that nobody noticed I was missing until 6.30am when JP and I usually get fed.
Andy looked everywhere and then in the end he opened the office door and out I rushed - gosh I really needed a wee and some food and drink.
Rachel gave me a lot of cuddles and Andy ran the kitchen tap for me to play with and everyone was very sorry. Rachel said I was a very good girl for not chewing wires or wee-ing on the carpet and that I should have called out and she would have let me out earlier.
Truth is though it was quite nice having a lovely sleep without JP around - he wakes up much earlier than me and is very annoying!

Not much has been going on around here, not that that is a bad thing of course, I like the simple quiet life.
It's spring and Rachel has been out planting stuff in the garden. We're not allowed to go out with her becasue we live too near a main road, but we don't mind. She opens the window a little so we can get some fresh air and look out into the garden. At the moment there are a lot of birds in the garden nesting and so forth, which is rather exciting from a cat perspective. It makes out tails twitch and our hair stand on end and if we were allowed out none of those birds would stand a chance. Oh no!
There is a lovely big windowsill in the front room of our house which gets all the sunshine so I love sleeping there. Sometimes though I get too hot - one of the downsides to being a British Short Hair is that my coat is like a furnace, even after I've moulted!
Other than that I have been mostly hanging out around the kitchen sink. And sometimes in the kitchen sink. I don't care much what Rachel and Andy say about how it is an addiction, and how weird I am, I like to watch the drips from the tap and sometimes get them on my head. It's soothing.
Besides, some of the stuff they do is weird.....

Well I've been busy as ever - sleeping, eating, grooming, disciplining my little brother. It's a hard life. Especially now that I have to fit in sentry duty at the kitchen sink as well. You just never know when that pesky tap might drip so I have to make sure I'm there as often as possible in case it does.
Rachel and Andy went away at the weekend. They went to see Rachel's parents in Cambridge. Apparently next year we're all moving to Cambridge, wherever that is, which will involve a car journey. I hope it's not too long a car journey because I'm very noisy on car journeys and it's hard work keeping up that level of noise for long.
Because they were only away for one night, JP and I were left to our own devices. It can be a bit boring when Andy and Rachel aren't here, especially as our favourite room; the one with the piano and the computers and the TV is always shut up when they are not here. But we do get to chase each other around the house and knock things over and make a big old mess. Rachel always leaves plenty of food (which I have to stop JP from eating all in one go), and two litter trays. I like to put all the litter from one tray into the other.
Plus I had the kitchen sink to keep me busy.....

The other night JP, my little brother decided to do a bit of spring cleaning. I've uploaded a video of him at it over on his page if you fancy having a look! He didn't do a very good job which is typical...
Apparently this weekend Rachel and Andy are spring cleaning. I suspect this means JP and I will get shut up in the bedroom. We hate it when the vacuum cleaner is on.
I'll keep you posted...

It's been quite an eventful few days. At the weekend Andy bought us a water fountain. Instead of drinking out of a bowl I can now have flowing water that is all filtered, which is delicious. It is also great for splashing about in - almost as good as the sink. In fact I have been neglecting my watch over the kitchen sink since the water fountain arrived - I haven't forgotten it though, I'll always keep half an eye on that tap!
Christine also came round at the weekend. Christine is our cat-sitter and she plays with us and strokes us and makes a big fuss of us. She came round to get a key because Andy and Rachel are going away for four nights tomorrow! Four nights on our own - I can only imagine the trouble my little brother, Park, will get into. I hope I can stop him from destroying too much!
Andy has been off work this week and at home - this means we have been able to have wrestling matches in the day - Rachel doesn't really do wrestling matches, but then she does feed us and give us our check ups and clean our litter so she's off the hook :)
It's been great weather here and Park and I have been basking on the windowsills in the sun. We've also been catching spiders.
Hope everycat has a lovely bank holiday weekend!
