Arrival Story: Our home was too empty. We recently lost our beloved Jetta to cancer. She was our first cat ever. We lasted 10 days without a kitty. I went to visit the wonderful people at the Watertown (WI) Humane Society. They had so many lovable kitties needing homes. But there was this one really scared little female. The volunteer handled her with big leather gloves. My heart when out to her. She was found on the mean streets of Wisconsin in February... in a very cold winter. I asked to spend some time with her in the bonding room. She was so fearful of everything. I sat on the floor (me- in my suit) and put her on my lap. She just stayed and hung on seeming to need my warmth. I melted. We adoped her as soon as was humanly possible. We brought her home and for quite a while, she would only come to us if we were laying down. Times have really changed. She's a bit more assertive, and actually seems to run the place. We're delighted that she's grown less fearful. She even came down to greet the ladies on Thursday night. She just showed herself to them for 30 seconds, then ran away. But it was a huge step for her.
Bio: Shyla is a natural born hunter. I love animals. We are sometimes at odds about her role with respect to other animals. We feed and water birds. Shyla knows she is NOT to hunt birdies. That said, she's brought a live one in the house. She let it go and it was up to me to get it to fly back out. Her most recent escapade was to bring in a chipmunk (she carried it like a kitty baby) and take it down into the family room, let it go, and chase the poor thing. Needless to say, she is on double secret probation.

I been coughing a lot lately. Mom gets her worried face on and just tried to hold me close. The vet said something last year about a murmur and a very fast heart.
Of course I have a fast heart! Everything about me is fast! But the last 2 days or so, I been slowing down.
Mom is so cute when she worries. She put water dishes in different places of the house so I'll drink more. She's so funny. But I'll be fine. After all, I'm the indestructible Shyla (former feral). Its going to take more than a little ticker problem to keep this girl down.
That skinny kitty has not been visiting my patio door since it got real cold. Dad says she's in someone's house, all warm and cozy. Mom's not so sure. She's such a softy. But I've let her know that there is ONLY ONE CAT IN THIS HOUSE and that's Me!
Hi to Whigger and his family. I hope they, and all my caster friends are warm and have full tummies.
(Mom) No No Sweetheart, that's Haiti. It a place where it's always warm. There are friendly people who live there. They work very heard just to survive. No, they don't have kitties or catster. They live in small shacks (mostly) or just walk around and rent a matt to sleep on.
Why is she all upset? She was telling me that they are all hurting very much from a big earthquake. Many are hurt, many have died, and many have no idea how their families are. The big quake separated families who can't find each other.
Cross your paws in purr that families will be reunited, that wounds will be attended to, and that people who are trapped can be rescued.
Mumma, can I send them some of my yummy canned food?
(Mom) Shyla, that's a wonderful though, but I'm way ahead of you.
Nope, not Monster.com, Monster on catster! Monster has inspired me to pick up my keyboard and begin journaling again. SOMEBODY has to know what's going on around this place!
The doves are back right in front of the patio door. Dad throws bird seed right there and to get out of the snow, they come in and eat. So, tell me, if they didn't eat it, would we have a new crop of birds next year? Maybe I should bring some in the house. There is nothing better than having critters in the house to chase.
Its been a long time, so I'll remind you, gentle cat readers, that I have brought in a chipmunk, bird, and a mouse. All alive. I drop them in the house and the chase is on! I love it, but Mom & Dad... not so much. The latest was a bird on thanksgiving day. No, no, not the big dead one, but a live one that tried to sneak in to my house. I had fun with him till Mom shoo'd him out. She's such a mammoth kill joy (big fangy smile)
I better go. I have to turn off the catputer before they get home from werk, or they will know what I've been up to.
