It's Good To Be An Americat!

Wow, what a noisy night it was!! There were loud fireworks going off all night. Me and my sister (Sissel) weren't a bit scared--but our dog Wesley sure was!! We tried to comfort him, but he would bark and run everytime there was a loud noise! Finally, mom gave him something called a tranquilizer, and pretty soon he was much quieter. He really didn't need to be so scared with me here to protect him.
Mom did remind us last night how lucky we are to be Americats! Though our country has it's troubles right now, we know we live in one of the the greatest countries in the world. A county that is always making strides to be sure that animals are treated well. One thing that would truly make it better, would be if everyone spayed and neutered their pets and there were no more homeless animals . . .
We are saying a little prayer today for our Catster friend Buddy. We hope everyone else will too. Please get well Buddy . . .
Well, I'm off to do what I do best---SLEEP and DREAM!!

Catster celebrates Norwegian Forest Cats! Hey, that's me!!

I see that my breed is being celebrated on Catster this week, so I thought it would be a good time to tell you a little about us. It is said that Norwegian Forest cats (Norsk Skogatt) appeared from the cold northern forests of Norway about 4000 years ago. Their thick, waterproof haircoats protected them from the cold snowy winters. They are said to have explored the world with the Vikings, protecting their grain supplies on both land and sea. NFC's are also great hunters. (yes, you should have seen my sister Sissel jump straight up in the air and run away when a gopher popped it's little head up from a hole she was guarding the other day!). The Vikings would have not been proud, but she is a silly girl afterall . . . So maybe we have lost our hunting skills a little over the years, but we do still make wonderful pets and love our families, both 2 legged and 4 legged members. And what could be more important than that?

The great hunter is in the hospital . . .

I am writing to you from the hospital with this IV thing in my paw and they keep checking my temperature!!! I heard someone say it was 104.5 degress--opps, the great Norwegian hunter encountered something other than a gopher the other day--something called a foxtail. I knew I wasn't feeling good and thank goodness mom noticed and took me to see Dr. Diane. Before I knew it I was asleep and then woke up feeling really wierd. If all goes well I should get to go home in the morning. When I am outside for a few hours each day, I like to go next door and visit 88 year old Mrs. B because she doesn't go anywhere these days and I know she loves to see me. Unlike my yard, which is all grass, her yard has some of these foxtail things. I just hope mom still lets me visit Mrs. D when I get out of the hospital . . . Here comes that cute vet tech--better go---oh no, not the temperature thing again!! I want my pain med!!!

I am home from the hospital and feeling so much better!! I have this drain thing in my neck--yes they shaved me!!--and get antibiotics twice a day. But I will be out hunting those pesky gophers again soon--maybe I will even catch one someday! Thanks for all your get well wishes . . .

Mom has finally been letting me go outside again now that my wound has all healed and the infection is gone. I just had to hop over the fence to go and see my 88 year old friend Mrs. B beacause I know she has missed me and I always make her smile. Well, I kept meowing at her back door to let her know I was there, but she never came out to see me. I was getting kind of worried. Mom saw her daughter at the house yesterday and asked her why Mrs. B wasn't answering her door. Come to find out, Mrs. B is now in the hospital!! She has something called diabetes and her foot is very infected (no, not by a foxtail like me.). Maybe I can go visit Mrs. B at the hospital?? Should I take her some of my antibiotic pills??? Oh Mrs. B, watch out for that thermometer thing!! TAXI!!

We can still dance Mrs. B . . .

Mrs. B is home from the hospital---and just in time for my birthday!!! I'm not too sure why she doesn't come to the back door any more and talk to me, but mom says she is not able to get around quite so well anymore because that bad diabetes thing caused her to have a surgery on her foot and she just can't walk anymore. But the good thing is that she can still see me from her bed and I meow her kisses when she looks out the window at me and she blows kisses back at me. And I know, despite losing her foot, she will still dance with me on my birthday--at least in her heart . . . I missed you Mrs. B and this song is for you.

I hate baths!!!!

I don't know why I have to have a bath---I clean myself all the time!! Of course I hide in the bedroom for a few days after mom gives me a bath--no respectable kitty wants to be seen that clean!!! Oh no---she's got the shampoo out. I'm out of here!!!!

Mom takes the dogs to the beach everyday and I know it is only about a mile away . . . So, maybe I can sneak out while she is on vacation with THE DOGS--and I can go on my own little vacation at the beach??!! Now, what direction to the beach?? I think I smell fish in the air---that must be the way to the ocean!! Here I come beach!! Wish me luck . . .

A Proverb For Michael Vick

If only Michael Vick had learned this proverb as a child, maybe this awful tragedy would have never happened . . . . "Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is just as important for the child as it is for the caterpillar".

My friend and neighbor Mrs. B has gone to the Bridge . . . She went into the hospital a few days ago snd I sent her some flowers. All the nurses kept asking her who this Smudge was that sent her flowers!!?? Mom tells me she won't be coming home this time. At least there will be alot of kitties to keep her company at the Bridge, but I sure will miss our visits. Her favorite color was pink. So we have decorated a Christmas tree with pink lights in our yard in her memory. I sure hope she can see it from the Bridge . . .thanks for being my friend Mrs. B.
Loving purrs until we meet again,
