Arrival Story:
We adopted Sam from the neighbors when they were being transferred out of the country for work. The neighbors would have had to put him in quarantine for months, and had decided instead to put him to sleep. He was only just over a year old, so we adopted him.

Bio:
We were between animals at the time - but my Dad was not happy when he found out we were bringing Sam to our house. As he said "I'm a DOG person." Of course from that time on - Sam was his cat! Dad couldn't do enough for him. If we went away for a weekend, my friend would feed him & put Sam in the kitchen at night. To make him comfortable, we'd haul his favorite chair into the kitchen - no easy feat as it fit through only one door - on the opposite side of the house. Sam was a fighter and patrolled the property like a sentry. If the new neighbor's calico set 1 paw in our yard, Sam was right there to put her in her place. As for the aforementioned Charlie - he was Sam's feline enemy. Charlie lived on the next street over and the two of them would fight - often. It was nothing for Sam to come home cut & bloody, but Charlie usually got the worst of it. One day Sam came home with an ear half torn off, cuts and gashes everywhere and the vet's order to keep him in and walk him on a leash! If you've ever tried to walk a cat on a leash - you know how much fun THAT is! NOT!! Sam had his good side, too. He was very patient with the new puppy - after he attacked the interloper after we brought her home. Actually he knocked over the screen we had in front of the door - hitting the puppy scaring her as much as himself as he didn't see the screen - just the dog. He taught the dog, Shane, to be very cat-like in a lot of her mannerisms - at least till she got bigger than him. Then he tolerated her - or gave her a good swat on the nose to put her back in her place. Sam tempted fate with every fight with Charlie, but his last fight was his downfall and his foe, much bigger and faster than he ever dreamed of being. We got home after school one day to find a cat dead at the bottom of the street. We lived near the top and there was another cat who lived closer to that spot - also solid grey & named Sam, but unfortunately it was our Sam who tried to take on a car and lost the battle.
