Quick Bio:

Coloration:
Black

Likes:
sleeping; curling up on me or lying next to me; playing in his box; playing a bit with feather toys, especially when Tess plays too

Pet-Peeves:
the *beast* Noelle, aka the satanic cur; the world

Favorite Toy:
Aldo's more of a sleeper, though you might say his favorite sport is batting dogs on the head for no reason except their mere existence

Favorite Nap Spot:
varies day-to-day: the cat tree; under the computer desk (I have an ottoman and pillow arrangement there); in the sunslight that comes through the bedroom window; the living room chair facing the front window; a stack of blankets piled on a chair

Favorite Food:
catnip, by far #1. Aldo's on a raw diet now, so people food has become a rare treat. He just recently (4 Jun) began trying to eat Noelle's large rabbit piece rather than his normal ground raw. It was truly amazing, watching him work that hunk of meat!

Skills:
Teacher; Mentor. When his little sister Tess was still quite young, Aldo guided her along, showing her the ropes. He also rescued me several times when Tess really resisted me. Aldo literally stepped in and taught Tess, in no uncertain terms, to obey me.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
Aldo was a stray at a rural public library very far out from the city where I live. I began training at this library in July 2000. One of my co-workers had tried adopting Aldo into her home, but she had two cats herself and it didn't work out. When I was preparing to leave that rural library in late October 2000, my co-workers begged me to take Aldo since he and I had bonded so well. And even though I already had four cats and a dog at the time, I agreed.

Bio:
Aldo was still quite young when I brought him home in October 2000--not yet even two years old, more like a bit over a year, maybe a year and one-half. He often was allowed in the library early in the mornings before it got too busy and, though a touch shy, he was social enough that he greeted people. There was a display table set up for Halloween at the time, with a cheerful cloth cover and books. Aldo just loved hiding under this table because the cloth draped down all the way to the floor. Whenever I passed by, he playfully tagged my leg with his paw. I brought him chow and treats from home, and I spent my lunch hours and breaks outside with him. He came when I called him, and he almost always was waiting nearby for me when I arrived each morning. Who could not resist such a sweetie pie? Aldo was diagnosed with chronic renal failure/disease in March 2005, and given the very poor prognosis of only a year to live. But Aldo is tough and he hangs in there. Despite hating to take his pills, he not only does it every single day but also does it like the man he is. The renal disease can turn his coat terribly ragged, although of late [Jul-Aug 2006] his coat has started returning and looking much fuller. At its finest, Aldo's coat is nothing short of spectacular--thick, glossy, rich, and colored the deepest of blacks. [Update late Aug 2006: Aldo just had a complete workup done for the crf. His results came back so good that the vet said, "Let's just keep up with what we're doing and we'll see Aldo again in a year to repeat his testing." !!!!!!! :)))) ]

Tess' Recovery--Update

Thank you so very much, Miss Hazel Lucy, for including Tess in your *Purr List*.

Tess came home this afternoon and seems to be doing quite well, all things considered. She was extremely nervous and high-strung overnight at the vet's, so much so that the vet felt she would heal much faster at home. Many of you know that Tess was a feral kitten before Mommy adopted her from the Humane Society, and even now, more than 2 years after "domestication," Tess still retains many of her original feral behaviors.

It cannot be overstated enough how exceedingly happy Tess is to be home. The vet was right on with this. Tess has been following Mommy absolutely everywhere, wanting a lot of attention and affection, and particularly reassurance. She's using her hind legs now, but cannot jump, tho she has tried a few times. She and Noelle already had a convo re playing and Noelle understands no playing right now, tho she's allowed to lick/kiss Tess to her heart's content.

Tess had a steroid shot yesterday. Right now, that's all the vet feels she needs unless something unforeseen happens. He expects Tess' sprained back to continue healing--he emphasized to Mommy he did *not* believe this was anything neurological--and that she should be good as new in about a week. Just keeping Tess from jumping right now is the main thing.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts, best wishes, gifts, Stars, Rosettes, purrs and prayers. It means so very much to our entire family and especially to Tess, who must endure the slow and often arduous healing process.

BTW, tomorrow is Noelle's 2-year gotcha anniversary! : ))))) And, no, Mommy is *not* throwing her out with the bathwater! Mommy obviously didn't consult me about this! MOL

Like every other cat and his/her brother and sister here on Catster, I've been tagged. Five times, actually, which sort of told me I no longer could just ignore this. No, I succumb. I'm defeated. See? My paws are raised high in the air, signaling my utter resignation.

So, "tag" goes something like this: You're tagged by some nice kit (or more than one nice kit) and you in turn choose 10 other kits to tag, writing something nice in your Diary both about the kit(s) who tagged you and the kits you are tagging. You then officially tag your 10 kits, either by pmail or by Rosette.

Little Bit, Twix, Stella, Skylar, and Heckyl: Thank you all so very much for tagging me, just a light paw tap each, indeed, as I lay snoozing unawares.

In turn, I am tagging just 5 cats, for which I do apologize for not completely complying with the rules of the game, but since I'm writing a paragraph about each kit I've tagged rather than the usual one line, y'all will just have to forgive me here. I could tag 5 more cats, but I've run out of the energy now to wax rhapsodic, so that's just the way it must be.

In this tagging quest, then, I land first on Aragorn, a most wise and learned cat, who weekly hosts, with his siblings Athena and Apollo, Friday Night Poetry and Pizza at LLS. Aragorn, Athena and Apollo are collectively known as the A-Team, and super heroes they all are! Aragorn, however, is a special friend, kindly sharing with me his passion for literature and many other subjects. He is one cool cat and it is a pleasure and an honor to be his friend.

Oh, my! Who is this?! Why, it's Wiggy, the only cat who is so totally proud of his rear end and prefers you admire his derriere rather than his beautiful face! There's simply not enough space or words to adequately express my admiration and love for Wiggy, who is like my true brother. Wiggy's sense of humor is grand and we often find ourselves in GMTA mode--thinking and laughing over the same thing before we've actually expressed it out loud to each other.

We come now to the one and only Snowy, whose outer beauty is easily eclipsed by her inner loveliness. Snowy is loyal and absolutely trustworthy, a privilege to know and a complete honor to call friend. Snowy radiates love, joy and caring from the very depths of her entire being. Whether you find yourself in times of trouble and need or in times of happiness, Snowy always is beside you, helping, sharing, comforting.

Another beauty blessed with inner grace and loveliness, Twix is an absolute sweetheart, a friend for whom I dearly care, adore and love. Twixy is generous almost to a fault, caring and loyal, a friend upon whom one can always count. Whether one needs to talk or just sit silent for a while, Twix comforts with her gentle, kind presence.

Rounding out this paean to 5 tagged cats is Ashley Jay, an extremely busy cat who always makes time for every purr. Ashley is the founder of the Black Cats Crossing our Paths (BCCP) group, one of the largest groups on Catster, as well as being one of 10 cats and a dog in her own family! :) Ash truly cares about effuryone and effurything, and she keeps up not just with Catster happenings but with individual families and their cats. Ashley goes out of her way to help and to comfort others, and don't let that "always late" fool you! She's the first cat out of the gate welcoming new purrs on here.

Purrs and Meiows,

Aldo

My Tail of Devotion for Aldo

My dearest, dearest Aldo,

In the six years we've been together now, so many things have happened. At home, you have become the true alpha, the top of the heap, and no one deserves it more than you. I admire you so very much for the way you take your medicine every day, the pills you hate terribly but that you nevertheless allow me to give to you. I always have remained grateful to you for intervening in Tess' upbringing, especially when she really resisted and downright fought against me. Not only did you let her know without any doubt that I was boss in this household, but that you were Boss #2, in case she had any questions on the subject.

Though we don't talk as much as we used to--and how I do miss that--I still cherish our bond and know it has never broken and that we continue to be linked so strongly to each other. How I love when you come into the bedroom and lie on my chest or on my back, or just snuggle next to me. You know the world, my poor boy, from your time as a stray, but you also know you are safe now and that I will *always* protect you, despite, yes, the new addition of Noelle, the *beast,* who really only wants just to make friends with you. But that is your decision, my precious precious Pepper, and you take as much time as you need. For now, I leave her out of this.

Ah, my Aldo Pepper. How many nights have you comforted me when I cried myself to sleep, or how many nights have you and Tess huddled together on the bureau, terrified, as I screamed from merciless fibro pain?

My dearest Aldo, my dear sweet Pepper, this is my Tail of Devotion to you. How I wish I could sing your praises properly and at length. Never once in our six years together have you disappointed me and I can hope only that I too have not lost esteem too far in your eyes. Indeed, you have risen in my esteem far too many times to count or even possibly remember. You are a cat of shining exellence, a cat par excellence, and the gods truly blessed me in allowing you into my life.

I thank you, my dear dear friend and confidante, both for that which you know and for that which you wisely keep to yourself.

Yours always in the intricate ties of deep and abiding friendship, honor and respect, and sweet, precious and true love,

Mommy
