Arrival Story:
Kotek was adopted as a Christmas present to the whole family one year. The story goes like this. All my childhood I'd wanted a pet. Well, one year Santa came to my dad in a dream and told him that transporting a living animal was just not sanitary and safe these days so my dad would have to take me to the pound to pick out a cat instead. So my dad and I headed down to the Toronto Humane Society, in downtown Toronto and started to look for the perfect cat. And there were plenty we didn't even know where to start! I finally decided on a few very popular looking cats that were very playful. So my dad went to get the attendant to help us pick one out of the final three. At the last moment, while I was waiting, I looked up and there in the back of a dark cage was a huge angry looking cat. He didn't look nice at all, and he was really big and already six years old! I looked into his eyes and I realized that if I didn't take this cat home with me right away, no one else would because he was so old and not very friendly looking at all. I was afraid the shelter would euthanize him. My father was horrified, of course, because this cat didn't seem that great at all. But I forced him to tell the attendant that this is the cat I wanted and this is the cat I would have, after all, Santa said I could pick him out myself. So we took him home. And he jumped out of the car and went to hide behind the couch for the rest of the night. The rest...is history.

Bio:
Kotek, which means "Cat" in Polish, turned out to be one of the sweetest, smartest cats we've ever known. He's so large, hugging him is like huggin a person and he'll never ever stop purring when you're around him. He's most content to just spend time with you while you do your every day things. He's very much an alpha male cat and doesn't let anyone get in his way. He voices his demands quite powerfully when he wants something. And he gets it. To this day, despite his age and weight and ensuing arthritis, he still manages to hunt the vermin that infest our country home. And he always, always ALWAYS has loads of love and affection to give to any two leggers who'll ask for it.

Today I slept on my chair. Then I ate. Then I decided to sleep in my basket. But that new kid Oliver keeps walking by and I have to growl or hiss at him to leave me alone. Not that he ever comes close or anything.

But, just in case.

Then I slept some more. Then Mops came inside and everyone was running around so I thought I'd get more food. And I did. Which is nice.

My hips have been bothering me a bit, but they're better since it's getting warmer. And I'm starting to go outside in the evening because now the frogs are all awake and singing all night so maybe I'll catch one.

Oliver follows me around no matter how much I yell at him not to. That kid better learn some respect.
