Leave a treat for Dusty

Nicknames: Daddy calls him: Buddy --- Mommy calls him: Baby, Dustin, DustPan

Kitty Complexion:

| | | | | |
 Coloration: Gray

Likes: AquariYums, Greenies treats, jumping into the washer/dryer/dishwasher/fridge, stalking squirrels from afar.

Pet-Peeves: Zoey & "Stinky" (the outdoor neighborhood cats). Our back door has a big glass panel in it, and Dusty always jumps at the window toward Zoey and Stinky whenever they get close to it. We've even seen him jump towards raccoons he sees through it!

Favorite Toy: Any cat toy is a good one. His favorite is a fishing-pole type that has a piece of denim fabric tied on the end -- it's called a "Kitty Tease" from The Galkie Company. He knows where we keep it, and runs when he hears the cabinet open.

Favorite Nap Spot: On his cat hut, near his dad's sheep slippers.... and ON HIS BACK!

Favorite Food: He'll eat anything.... beansprouts, stir fry, cheese... even turkey right out of your sandwich.

Skills: Lays on his BACK. Stands up for treats! Leaps up to very VERY high places. Can open closed doors by himself!

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story: It was the fall of 2003 and we were absolutely heartbroken at the premature and sudden death of Spooky who had been our fur-son for 5 years. We went out a few weekends afterward looking for a possible new companion for Digit. We didn't find the perfect cat at the humane society and we had trouble finding any available cats from the newspaper..... and for some reason we couldn't use the phone (come to find out, we left one of the extensions off the hook).
So we went to a payphone downtown on this Sunday afternoon and called several ads. Only one place had a kitty available... and the very last one was left. We drove right over, and met the teeny gray cat who would later be named Dusty. He was very small -- the runt of the litter. Kim had some concern that he looked just like Spooky... but since their personalities were so different, it wasn't an issue at all.

Bio: Chris is very much Dusty's daddy. He slept with Dusty those first few nights he was here and meowing very loudly. He's still a loud guy! In the right light, you can see very faint stripes on his tail. He has a tiny white patch of fur under his chin. He's always getting into things. He loves cardboard boxes of all types/sizes, and he also loves to chew on noisy plastic bags from the grocery store. He's not too fond of Mister Snake, his childhood nemesis. Daddy taught Dusty how to drink water from his cup... so now water can only be kept in closed containers. Dusty likes to sniff in cups, sometimes take a drink, and then tip them over. He will jump into his cat carrier and hang out in there, but he HATES it when he's in it to go for a ride.

See, I've been in trouble for the past couple of days. Digit, my sister, has had a sore on her rear end for the past couple of days. Mommy and Daddy thought I bit her. Now, she and I do play-chase and play-fight a little bit, but I do not bite. Seriously. But since she and I are the only cats in the house, I was thought to have been the only one who could have given her a wound there.
So Mommy noticed this wound on Digit getting bigger yesterday morning. Last night, Daddy agreed too that her wound was growing. So this morning he called The Cat Doctor and took her in around 10.
At The Cat Doctor, they learned that Digit had an anal gland abscess. See? Nothing to do with me. She had a procedure done to clear it out, and then she'll be on antibiotics for a while. They just called and said the procedure went really well and they're going to pick up Digit in a little while. The house is definitely quiet while she's gone. Perhaps I can sneak a nap in her bed?
I definitely better be getting some catnip or a really nice treat since this turned out not to be my fault!!

So, if you've read much about me, you know that I quite regularly lay and sleep on my back with all 4 paws in the air. Today was no exception. Today WAS a bit different, though. I'm not big on fans, because they're noisy and scary. However, today I was spread-eagle under the ceiling fan.
Daddy knew it was hot outside and getting unusually hot in the house, but it didn't dawn on him that something was wrong until he saw me all spread out under the ceiling fan with my fur blowing in the breeze. I had to cool down!
So, he checked the thermostat, and it was over 85 degrees inside the house already. He has a heart condition, so we usually keep it around 70. Luckily, daddy handled the whole thing (because mommy was at work) and got the air conditioner guy to fix everything so we didn't have to go sleep at a hotel tonight. It turned out that the lawn people snapped the power wire to the air conditioning unit with their weedwacker. I hope they fire those guys! That lawn equipment is loud and scary, and they don't even do a good job!
I think my mommy would like it if we got a sheep to gnaw on the grass to keep it short. She likes sheep and has a whole bunch of stuffed ones in the house. People give her sheep as gifts, and her sister even climbed a mountain in Switzerland just to get a sheep picture for her... but that's fodder for another post.

Oh my gosh, I couldn't wait to wash my paws and then sit down and tell you about this! Today was a special day at our house, because mommy and daddy spent a lot of time rushing around the kitchen and cleaning up the living room. Mommy made a strawberry pie. I could smell the salmon cooking -- it was heavenly! Then mommy's daddy came over. It's his birthday today!
So, about the invsion: Everyone is having dinner, and there is a caterpillar in mommy's broccoli! She bought it at the farmer's market this morning when she was with her daddy... but she forgot to wash it before cooking it! Mommy's caterpillar was really funny, but then HER daddy found like five in his broccoli. (Daddy didn't find any because he doesn't eat green stuff. He should try bean sprouts sometime. I really like those!) I wonder how many caterpillars mommy and grandpa ate before they noticed them. Ewwww!
Daddy decided that he's going to call this "The Broccopillar Incident". I can't believe my home got invaded by a new kind of bug! I like chasing spiders and following them around the walls.... but these broccopillars were no fun. They never moved a muscle.
