HOW I CAME TO BE HERE

Hi everyfur! This is still pretty new to me. Guess persistence pays off - I tol' 'em and tol' 'em, I didn't wanna be outside; I wanna be INSIDE! All the rest of my sisfurs and brofurs and cuzzins all runned away, but not me - I run TO the door!

Now, if I can just get my cuzzins Samhain and Sleeper to play with me, life will be purr-fect!

I'M FEELING BETTER!

The Mama wanted me to take a moment to say that she is very pleased with the results of the Clavamox in healing my upper respiratory problem. She no longer is able to immediately locate me by the sound of my raspy breathing – which means it’s easier to hide and sneak up on her and the cousins! Hee hee!

And my eyes and nose aren’t constantly runny, and I’m not sneezing like crazy every 5 minutes – OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration! MOL!

But the bestest thing of all is that my cousin Samhain is PLAYING WITH ME!!!!! OK – so she still growls and hisses, but we chase each other and we play tug of war and hide and seek – it’s cool!!! I wish Sleeper would play with us, but at least she doesn’t run from me every time. And we all have had some tail sniffing sessions – so… things are really looking up! Hurray!!!!

VET VISIT

Am feeling a little under the weather since I had to go to the vet today and get my 2nd Combo of FELV/FVRCP vaccine. Plus, since I still have a little head cold, the vet lady gave me an antibiotic shot. That's OK with me; better than the nasty medicine the Mama was forcing down my throat!

The vet lady said I looked pretty good except for the congestion. She was surprised I didn't have fleas or ear mites. So was the Mama - she never could understand how I escaped that. And she trimmed my nails real super quick without me wiggling at all! The Mama said I was a super good girl. And later the Papa brought three ferret mousies for us all. Sleeper just went crazy over hers! I only played a little bit, then curled up on the couch with the Papa and went to sleep - something I NEVER do. The Mama says she's gonna keep an eye on me.

RECOVERING

I’m starting to feel better now. I’ve eaten some today and even played for a few minutes, but most of my time has still been spent in sleeping. The Mama stayed home with me. She noted at one point that I appeared to be favoring my left hind quarters, but that seems to have passed now, too. She can only suppose it was stiffness in my joints as there has been no time since I got my shots yesterday that I could have fallen.

Anyway, it’s a relief to me and to the pawrents to see me start to act more normally. Hopefully, tomorrow the effects will have completely worn off. Oh, and I am sneezing less – this is good.

WHY DO I DO THAT?

Here's something to drive the pawrents crazy...tell me if any of you do this thing I'm fixing to describe:

After I eat my food, I do the "cover it up" movement. I'm really compulsive about it, and will do it REPEATEDLY, coming back after I've been shooed away more than a couple of times. I'll do it with wet food and with dry food. The wet food is not so much a problem, but you can imagine what happens with the dry - it rolls all over the place!!!

Now the Mama has observed with cats in the past, that they'll do this with food they don't like or when they've thrown up, but this isn't the case. I LIKE the food, and it's AFTER I've eaten that I do the "covering".

The Papa suggested that maybe this was a feral instinct that says I need to hide the food so no other cats will get it before I come back for it. This sounds very possible.

Any other furs do this?

OPERATION KIT-NAP

Oh, BOY! They said I get to tell the story this time in my very own diary! Anyway, it happened like this: it was a no-go yesterday with Operation Kit-Nap. First, see, nothing felt normal; there were two traps and two carriers out there on the porch again; the Mama smelled nervous (we can all tell); the Papa was also on the porch – the Papa NEVER brings the food, he only brings the traps! So the ferals all just scattered. Mama called it off and they didn’t set the traps at all, just left them – the Papa said maybe they needed to get accustomed to them being there again, just sitting with a little food in them.

This morning the Mama acted like it was a usual breakfast, not even letting HERSELF think about it, except she put on her coat and gloves. She walked out with the food dishes, and when everyone jumped around her trying to get to them, she reached down and scooped up Little Grey Tabby and whirled around pushing her gently into the carrier behind her!

Of course, when she tried to catch one of the blacks, she wasn’t prepared with the carrier beside her, door open. She had the black in her arms; it was struggling some but not frantic – until she walked over to the other carrier and tried to get the door open. Then he said NO WAY and squirmed out of her arms. That’s OK, though. Now she knows this will work! The ferals all came back in a little while to finish their food. Tomorrow she will try again, making sure she has the carrier open there behind her.

Meanwhile, Little Grey Tabby is on her way to see the Cat Whisperer this morning. This is a foster house. The mom there works with the SPCA, but the daughter is supposed to have an amazing success rate working with wild cats. She’s gonna calm this one and then there’s already a home lined up and waiting to take it. If for some reason the Grey doesn’t make it through the program, our Mama and Papa told them to just bring her back. She gets fed here and has her family and a winter home. But how much nicer it will be if she can have a nice warm furever family!!! Everyone cross their paws that it works out, and send some purrs the Mama’s way tomorrow so she catches one of the blacks without a hitch!

CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY

We got the bestest news today! We hadn’t heard word of Little Grey Tabby since we took her to the Cat Whisperer, and we were afraid to ask. Today we heard that she has adapted well to being inside with people, and is ready to go to her new home. Our Christmas wish has come true!

In a few days, we get to choose another of the ferals to go to the cat halfway house. Thanks for all your purrs, fur people, and Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Blessed Winter Solstice and Happy New Year to everybody!

OPERATION KIT-NAP #2

As some of you may have already read, Little Grey Tabby passed the grade at the Cat Whisperer’s and got her furever home. Way to go, Little Grey!!! So the pawrents were given the go-ahead to catch the next kitty for socialization training.

It should be mentioned that the kittens deemed eligible for this “program” are the ones the pawrents had already trapped, had spayed and released again. There were 6 of these that were kittens approximately my age – now about 5 months old. The others were adults and decidedly more wild than the kittens. Though, we want to add that we don’t think they are beyond taming, but the pawrents have as much as they can handle with the 3 of us inside girls. They are shaking their heads now in dumb amazement that, after having FINALLY raised Sleeper and Samhain from tiny kittens to a somewhat more laid-back maturity – they took ANOTHER kitten into the household – ME! They sure won the lottery with me, huh?

And speaking of winning the lottery - drum roll, please:
The winner this morning is roly-poly Friendly Blackie! Not sure if F.B. is a male or a female – the pawrents only know that it’s one of those who’s been spayed. There’s another very like it but with a slimmer face that has allowed the Mama to touch it fleetingly – maybe it will get it’s chance eventually…

Anyway, after having a “no-go” on Christmas Eve – the Mama having hesitated before trying to scoop up a kitten, so they all turned wary – this morning she walked out casually with the food. Friendly Black went to the same spot he usually takes to eat, and the Mama leaned down, stroked his back once, then quickly gathered him up and spun around to the waiting carrier (which has been sitting on the porch for days – the kittens all play in it). He meowed once or twice, but the pawrents covered the carrier with a blanket and he quieted down.

He (or she) is on their way to the Cat Whisperer now, with a can of cat food (he DID miss his breakfast, after all!) Our good wishes and purrs go with you, little one - that you settle into your furever home soon!
