Well, it means he loves you, and it could also mean that he's been lonely all day. You could consider getting another cat to keep to keep him company when you're not around. Personally, I like having cats who stick by me. My cats tend to be in whatever room I'm in. I have 4 permanent cats, 1 older kitten who's waiting to be sold (we're a cattery), and 4 newborn kittens. Going to the bathroom is always a group affair, and while not all of them sleep in the same bed as I do, they usually gather in the same room. Perhaps because I live alone, I like that. Consider yourself lucky that your cat obviously loves you--a lot of Catster members complain about cats that are unfriendly. But he could also be suffering from separation anxiety, in which case, again, I recommend another cat, if possible.

Even though we think we are "training" them, cats pretty much do what they want. Your cat is following you b/c he wants to see what you are doing. When you adopt a cat, feed it, groom it, and otherwise take care of it, the cat sees you as it's "mother" whether you are a boy or a girl. You are doing the same thing for it the mother did, and she trained her kittens to follow her so she could teach them and keep them safe. I hope you don't think this is annoying, because it is the way your kitty is telling you that he loves you and admires you. Some people on this board get angry because their cats ignore them!

Leila and Izzie both provided excellent answers. Take it as a compliment, you're loved. If he's a solo kitty it might be separation anxiety. In which case if it's not addressed, he may start acting up while you're gone. If you can afford a second kitty, I would get one. When I got Binx, I got her brother too so they wouldn't be lonely when I went to classes. Her brother unfortunately died of a birth defect not long after, so I brought Mieke home, then Julius. They all three follow me around, and my sister just finished telling me it's weird that they follow her around too. But they're very curious people-loving kitties. They never stray far from me, and are usually climbing all over me. I just revel in the kitty affection and feel loved. :)
