We admire dogs for their willingness to see the best in everybody, their boundless energy, their dogged persistence, and their constant desire to play, whether it be with human, animal, or coat rack.
And we admire cats for the near opposite of that: their thirst for relaxation, their eagerness for sitting still, their lust for contemplation, and their desire to play with others — human, dog, or coat rack — entirely when they are damn good and ready.
That’s exactly what’s going on in this viral video “Dogs Annoying Cats With Their Friendship,” compiled by the Huffington Post at the end of last week and currently blowing up all things Internet. It has dogs, many dogs, eager and nearly desperate to have a romp and a play, and the only things in the various rooms the dogs have to play with are … yikes … cats. Cats who are doing that whole cat thing, staring at the quivering, pawing, eager-to-please dogs with something akin to shock. “What the hell are you doing?” they glare. “Why the hell would I want to play with you?” they radiate. And then, of course, the claws extend. SWAT.
Poor dogs.
But dogs are nothing if not persistent, and eventually … well, a warm snuggle isn’t always so bad, and God knows that dirty muzzle could use some attention from a firm, abrasive tongue owned by a kitty who knows how to use it.
