The characters he created may be sick, dysfunctional and twisted, but Seth MacFarlane not so much.
E! Online reports that MacFarlane, famous for being the creator of the Fox TV animated series “Family Guy,” has teamed up with Heaven on Earth Society for Animals to create a new cat sanctuary at the facility.
Why would this widely acclaimed, Emmy-winning “mad genius” put so much money and energy into helping homeless cats?
It’s all because of his mother.
Ann Perry MacFarlane was a lifelong animal rescuer. She cared for all kinds of wild and domestic animals and specialized in working with the ones no one else would help. Last year, she died at age 63, after a long battle with breast cancer.
MacFarlane, a cat lover himself, decided to honor his mother’s memory by establishing Perry’s Place — The Perry MacFarlane Sanctuary at Heaven on Earth.
He chose Heaven on Earth because, like his mother, the organization focuses on cats that would ordinarily be overlooked — the disabled, the elderly, the ones with chronic illnesses like FIV — and works hard to find them loving homes.
MacFarlane’s donation will provide the funding to begin the purchase and construction of the cage-free sanctuary and adoption center, and Heaven on Earth has started a campaign to raise the rest of the money needed.
Thank you, Seth! You may be known as “the craziest guy on TV,” but your compassion for cats in need and your desire to honor your mother’s memory with such a wonderful deed tells me you may actually be one of the sanest guys in Hollywood.
